The internet is a brilliant tool, but it’s up to us to use it correctly. All too often, you’ll hear people say that the internet is boring — but what they’re really saying is, how I’m using the internet is boring. If you’re just visiting the same old websites time and time again, then it’ll be inevitable that you’ll begin looking at ways to spend more time offline.
In that scenario, you just need to rediscover the magic of the web. You don’t need to look very far to find an engaging way to pass some hours online. Below, we’ll run through a few ideas that’ll nudge you in the right direction.
Learn a Language
It’s always been possible to learn a second language. However, if you wanted to learn one, say, fifty years ago, then you’d have to put up with reading a bunch of dry books that talked you through vocabulary and grammar. Today, you can learn any language in the world in an engaging way. And the best part? Many of these options are free. Pick a language that interests you, get to work, and within a month you’ll know enough to have basic conversations (and certainly enough to impress your friends!).
Play a Classic Game
Modern games are great. But let’s be honest, they were better in the past. The simple ones are the best, as they say! The internet is awash with classic games that are available to play through a browser. You can even play games such as Pong and Space Invaders from right within the Google search bar. If you’re looking for a fun game that also provides a trip down memory lane, then look at having a game of Minesweeper, which just about everyone played on their computers back in the 1990s. If you’re a bit more technologically-minded, you can also install modulators that’ll allow you to play early video game console titles, too.
Follow YouTube Tutorials
Do you want to learn how to do, well, just about anything? Then take a look at YouTube. This website isn’t always everyone’s favorite, but there’s no denying that it’s pretty amazing when it comes to learning how to do stuff. Just type ‘how to…’ into the search bar, and you’ll have expert videos that walk through each step. It’s good for basic things, such as learning how to juggle, but you can also learn more complex things, too. For example, what about learning how to play piano?
Discover a New Podcast
For a while, it looked like podcasts were headed to the internet graveyard. Then something happened: people started making them, and people started listening. Today, you’ll find podcasts on just about every subject under the sun. Of course, as with all things, some are better than others — but when you land on a good podcast, you’ll be in heaven. If you’re new to the podcast, then look at listening to the classics that everyone enjoys, including You’re Wrong About, This American Life, and Serial.
