4 Ways To Put Yourself In The Creative Mood

Lifestyle

If you are a creative person, it does not follow that you will be able to be creative all day, every day. Sometimes you’ll feel like you’re lacking in inspiration, and whatever creative attempts you try simply don’t turn out well. If you have the leisure to wait till the inspiration strikes again, that’s OK, but if you work in a creative field and require ideas to get paid, you’ll have to do something about it. Here are some terrific techniques to get you in the mood to be creative.

Give Yourself Some Space

When you need to rekindle your creativity, one of the best ways to begin is to give yourself some space. Isolate yourself from everyone and everything. You just need a short period of time – anything from 10 minutes to several hours – to get your brain going.

If possible, go somewhere you won’t be bothered and simply sit or lay motionless with your eyes closed. Concentrate on your breaths and let yourself drift away. When you ‘wake up’ and return to reality, your brain should be less hazy and full, and thoughts should begin to flow.

Do Something Different

If you’re genuinely stuck creatively, trying something entirely different can be extremely beneficial. Find something to do to divert your attention away from the work at hand; you don’t want to overthink things, and it’s better to return to the subject with a new perspective when you’re ready.

If you want to attempt something new that will keep your mind off the problem you’re experiencing, Escapologic escape rooms might be ideal. You’ll need to use your brain to solve puzzles in order to escape from a confined room in a certain amount of time, so you won’t have time to think about anything else. The same holds true for a class, whether you’re learning a new skill or working out. When you finish and return to the art you were working on, you should feel rejuvenated and re-energized, and you should have some wonderful ideas flowing.

Have Lots Of Ideas

A new idea does not compel you to put it into action. Try it, but don’t feel obligated to continue if it doesn’t work for you. Toss it out if it’s not working at all. Possibly you’ll revisit it later, possibly not. In short, if you keep attempting to make an idea work that simply doesn’t work, your creativity is going to become stymied. This is your subconscious informing you that there is no sense in continuing with this specific undertaking at this particular moment in time. If you start anything new, fresh thoughts will more easily flow into your head.

Give Yourself Time

Check your calendar or schedule – when do you need to come up with an idea? That is your deadline, and you shouldn’t have to worry about anything else until then. That’s not to suggest you shouldn’t think about the project at all and leave it to the last minute – that can be a bad idea – but if you have some time before the deadline, you can give yourself a bit more leeway. Worrying over coming up with an idea might in turn make it difficult to come up with one.
