It’s winter again and we all know what that means, ice skating, baking cookies, and chapped cheeks! When you live in a chilly climate, you’re no stranger to the realities of dry skin during the cold months. With heaters on full blast, the air in your home can feel as dry as the desert.
Luckily for you, it’s easy to maintain glowing skin with a few simple lifestyle changes. We’re confident that these five tips for healthy skin will leave your skin feeling hydrated and replenished all winter long.
#1 Add a Humidifier
Sick of static-y hair? Tired of waking up with parched lips? Invest in a humidifier to infuse the air with additional moisture. Humidifiers are a simple, sustainable way to combat dry skin at home. Both warm-mist and cool-mist humidifiers effectively disperse moisture into the air, and in addition to soothing dry skin, ease congestion from colds and flus.
Quick Tip: Make sure you clean your humidifier regularly. Cool-mist humidifiers in particular accumulate bacteria in the tank and then disperse it into the air during use. Use an antibacterial cleaner to prevent any mold or mildew from building up.
#2 Avoid Hot Water
When it’s freezing-cold outside a hot shower sounds so good. But although it seems counter-intuitive, hot baths and showers can dry out your skin. If you must bask in a hot shower to warm up and relax (we hear you Minnesota) try turning down the temperature once you feel toasty and do most of your washing in luke-warm water instead.
