5 Ways to Save Money on Gas

Ways to Save Money on Gas

Saving money on gas shouldn’t be something you have to work extra hard for. We’re all just relieved that gas prices are not close to $5 like they used to be back in 2016. I can remember back when I started driving gas was 56 cents a gallon and we thought that was highway robbery. But, when we stopped at the Fina (small town name for gas station)  in town Dave always made you feel like a million bucks because your tire pressure was checked as well as the oil pressure and of course there was a clean windshield to boot. Gone are those days here in the good ole state of Missouri, but that is a story for another day. Today we are going to talk abut five ways to save on gas.

Fill up when gas is cheap

Easier said than done right? However, if you time it just right, You can fill up right when gas is cheaper even if it’s just a few cents, you are still savings. Pay attention to the patterns of the gas stations around you, they usually raise gas prices around the same times. But sometimes they have a penny or so difference, and take it from me those pennies add up.

Don’t leave your vehicle running

One of the most popular ways to waste gas is to leave a vehicle running. Obviously, sometimes you need to leave it running, but other times you can easily turn it off. If you’re looking for ways to save money on gas, don’t leave your vehicle running for an extended period of time. But, the newer the vehicle, the more you save because lots of them have idling technology that shuts off the vehicle when you are stopped.

Walk or take a bike

Seriously, if you are just going down the road, do you have to take a vehicle? You can easily take a bike or even walk to your destination. Plus you burn extra calories, so it is a win, win. We live in a rural community, so it isn’t a choice for us, but when we are in town running errands, we park and walk when we can.

Pay attention to how you are driving:

This is for all of the lead foot drivers out there. If you pay attention to how you are driving, you’ll easily save money on gas. Turn on your cruise control when appropriate, don’t hit the gas when you’re taking off at a stop light, and don’t drive like a maniac. The money you save will be your own and of course your vehicle will last longer.

Utilize those discounts:

One of my favorite ways to save money on gas is by using discounts when I can. I actually get points for gas from the grocery store that I shop at. How awesome is that? So easy to scan my card, get points, and then use those points to save money on gas. I even do the same thing when we are visiting our daughter out of state using their local stores to save. It’s amazing to me how much money I save throughout the year.

If you are ready to update your vehicle to help you save on gas, be sure to check out Thompson Auto Group for all of your automotive needs. They have a wide selection of Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Hyundai, and many more. They even have some special discounts available, so be sure you check those out as well.

Owning a vehicle is an investment and we all know how expensive they are. Check out all of the “vehicle” themed articles I have on the site.

I like the suggestion to pay attention to how you are driving. My husband says that I am a trigger happy driver. I just the line and accelerate too quickly. My gas usually doesn’t last me very long because of it. I will be sure to watch my driving now to see if there are ways I can drive better and save on gas.
