If you’re trying to enjoy your summer vacation with your partner but can’t get over the blistering heat, it can feel like you don’t have the energy to do anything. Instead, you spend all day on the sofa hoping the temperature drops. Of course, it’s never that simple. But, you don’t want to waste your time off by battling against the warm weather, sweating, and feeling a little too lightheaded.
It’s important to keep cool and comfortable in the baking heat, and if you have kids (and pets), you must look after them, too. If you’re not used to these temperatures, consider these ideas ways to help you overcome the heat.
Wear Breathable Clothing
You can’t walk around shirtless no matter how hot things get, but this doesn’t mean you should suffer through sweat and sun. Wearing breathable clothing, such as sports shirts and activewear or floaty Plus Size Tops, can keep you cool and comfortable no matter how high the temperature rises.
The thinner, the better, as these clothes allow more air to pass through. As they are not so thick, they will dry fast even if you sweat regularly. Breathable clothes also make it more comfortable when you walk into an air-conditioned building, as you won’t feel the cold, damp fabric sticking to your skin.
Stay Out of the Sun
It seems like an obvious solution, but many people are drawn to the sun and then complain they are too hot. While there’s nothing wrong with a little sunbathing, especially if you want to top up your tan, too much sun exposure can be dangerous.
Sunburn, heat stroke, and potential skin cancer are all risks if you spend too much time in the sun. for kids and the elderly, you should be even more careful. If you can, set up a shade at home, as this allows you to spend time outside. Make sure to wear sunscreen and hats, too.
Keep the Curtains Closed
If you can’t handle the brightness or the heat, you are better off staying inside, preferably with the AC running or a fan spinning in the corner. This is not the only way to keep your home cool, though. Closing the curtains provides insulating benefits that cools the air inside by preventing it from escaping through the windows.
It’s best to do this with sun-facing windows to prevent too much glare and interior warming. But to save time, you may benefit from closing all the windows or blinds as soon as possible.
Stay Hydrated
Hydration is a must when it’s too warm considering how much you sweat even if you try everything you can to stay out of the heat. Drinking plenty of water and keeping ice packs nearby can keep your body temperature from rising too much and ensure you’re comfortable.
This is also a good way to keep your kids and pets safe in extreme heat, too. As they may not be able to regulate their body temperature as easily as you can, you must be there to keep them cool and ensure they are as comfortable as possible.
Be Active At Night
Everyone is used to running errands, doing chores, or exercising during the day. However, if temperatures get too high, you risk putting yourself in danger, so it’s better to be active at night to prevent heat exhaustion and other serious heat-related issues.
Of course, you won’t be able to visit the store after a certain time, but exercise, walking the dog, and cooking and cleaning can wait until the sun goes down, or at least when it starts to set. This encourages a small but noticeable temperature drop and makes the heat a little easier to deal with.
Make Your Bedroom Comfortable
It feels impossible to sleep in a hot bedroom, so you’ll need to do as much as possible to make it comfortable. Closing the blinds and curtains is one approach, while opening the windows and activating the fan are other options.
If this isn’t enough, use thin sheets rather than your usual comforter. You can also fill a hot water bottle and put it in your freezer to keep under the covers cool. Soaking a kitchen towel and placing it on your pillow is another recommended solution.
Refreshed
These tips will help you stay refreshed during the warm (some would say too warm) months. As exciting as hot weather can be, it also poses plenty of dangers if you don’t take care of yourself and your family. By ensuring you are sensible when spending time in the sun you can prevent illness, sunburn, and other issues.
