7 Winter Bucket List to do as a Family

Family

Winter is upon us and there will be times when many of you are snowed in or simply hunker down to escape the cold. Thankfully, there are almost always breaks in the bad weather, which is the perfect time to break that cabin fever and get out and do something.

However, instead of just watching a movie or getting out of the house for the sake of getting out, you have a chance to knock a thing or two off of your bucket list. Whether that’s taking a perfect and unforgettable trip with the family or simply checking out something local that you’ve always wanted to, winter could be the perfect time.

1. Go International

A lot of people have visiting at least one or two specific countries on their bucket list. While you’re suffering through snow and ice, there’s a good chance that one of your dream countries is in the midst of summer. Furthermore, you can generally find cheap flights to destinations that are typically rather costly during this time of year.

2. Hit the Slopes

Winter means lots of snow, purchasing winter hats for men, women, and children, and enjoying winter sports that are a huge draw for several states. While you’ll likely need to set reservations well in advance, rent a cabin near a resort town and take in the beauty of the season. Take the kids skiing or ice-skating, visit local towns and sights, and turn winter to your advantage.

3. Take the Snowman to the Next Level

Just about everyone has made a snowman at some point, and of course, kids love them. Make some lasting memories with them and buy a few buttons, cheap mittens, and hats for snowmen to build an entire family of snowpeople. Ensure to use your Christmas lights and light up your snow family for all to see and enjoy at night.

4. Road Trip

While you’ll need to plan ahead if you’re traveling with kids, this is the perfect time to visit somewhere close that you’ve never been. Whether that’s heading a few hours down the road to San Antonio or even to Disney World, just about everyone has a semi-nearby city that they’ve yet to visit.

5. Make Snow Ice Cream

Making new traditions is on the bucket list of many. Turn the snow to your advantage and start a tradition that everyone in the family can enjoy. There are few treats quite as memorable as homemade snow ice cream. Let the kids choose a flavor and have them help make these yummy treats. Then, gather by the fire to enjoy the delicious creations.

6. More Snow Fun

You can take things up a couple of levels and give your kids some lasting memories by building an igloo. While this one takes a good bit of effort and time, it’s an activity the whole family can enjoy and something not many people have done.

7. Co-op a Summer Activity

Have a winter picnic in the backyard or a local park. If it’s too cold for that, then make it an indoor one. Head to the living room, pile into a closet, or head down to the basement—the kids are sure to enjoy the spontaneity.

Winter doesn’t have to mean staying at home with the fireplace blazing. There are still some fun activities you can do as a family during the wintertime. It’s also the perfect time of year to knock out bucket list items. In many cases, you’ll avoid the main tourist season, which can save you money compared to traveling during warmer times.
