Weight seems to be a problem for an increasing number of people in the world. I must admit that I am one of those individuals that have always struggled with an extra pound or two. Winter is a particularly bad period for me as I tend to eat more and accumulate the extra calories in my belly and thighs. Once spring comes, I realize what a terrible mistake I have made. Dieting sometimes helps but I always feel like there was something missing – like my body isn’t responding well enough to any plan. I became tired of feeling tired. There had to be another way.
Learn about the diet if you are not yet familiar with its rules
Intermittent fasting was an idea that more than a couple of my friends had suggested over the years. It remained in the back of my mind but ended up always taking a backseat to keto, paleo, and other more popular methods. None of those worked so I decided to give fasting a go. I didn’t have anything to lose (except those 40 pounds, of course). I was very new to the idea so I took the time to read up on it and learn as much as I possibly could before plunging into this new diet. I was not going to make the same mistake I made with a few other meal plans. I wanted to know everything. I learned the rules of alternate-day fasting and decided to stick to them for a month or two.
Know which types of food are good or bad for you
Perhaps the most important thing to focus on turned out to be the time intervals. Leangains (another name for intermittent fasting) rely on abstaining from food for long periods of time during the day, only giving yourself small windows of time during which you are allowed to eat. This way, all the calories in your food are used productively, and you also prevent yourself from eating too many snacks. Still, that does not mean that you can eat literally anything. Quite the contrary. Over time, I realized that stocking up on fruits and veggies is the best thing to do, while carbs and fats should be kept at bay at all times. The diet also ended up being quite cost-effective which is always a bonus.
Find the right exercise regimen for your needs
Of course, it’s impossible to ignore exercise. Since fasting for hours can leave you quite fidgety, it is best to put your energy and time to good use. Simply get out of the house and move around a bit. Finding the right fitness regiment can help you lose weight a lot faster and stay in top shape. I made a point of tying my new diet to a new exercise program, making sure to stick to it every single day. No cheating. I also used a couple of pretty neat apps to keep me on track and help me get to my goal weight faster.
I cannot say that it was easy but I started seeing results almost immediately. I was two weeks in and managed to shed three pounds. Four months down the line, I feel better than ever. I still have a bit to go but I am pretty optimistic that I will reach my goals soon.
You are definitely not alone in wanting to lose weight. I was in the same position, struggling to shed the pounds for years. After quite a few diets, I gave intermittent fasting a go. I used all the online resources and apps I could find, learned all about the diet, figured out which foods are best for me, and stuck to a basic exercise plan. No, it wasn’t easy but the effort is paying off. You might want to give it a try too. You’d be surprised how quickly the results start showing. Come prepared and don’t give up.
