An Iconic Movie

*Disclosure: I received an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for the coverage of these events. All opinions are 100% my own.

Because Beauty and the Beast is such an iconic movie, many of us have grown up with the animated version including Luke Evans and Josh Gad. Josh said he signed on because it was such an iconic movie and because Beauty and the Beast was his Frozen. It was exciting getting to recreate these moments that he grew up with and knowing that his daughters will grow up with this definitive version of the story.

Beauty and the Beast is going to be the only big screen musical, live action film that my kids have seen on the sliver screen in their lifetimes. Josh came from musical theater and knows that his daughters won’t go to Moulin Rouge, but Beauty and the Beast is something that they can watch and enjoy because it is truly a family friendly film. This will be the first time many of our kids will have seen a musical screen that is animated and that is HUGE!!

Luke Evans admitted that this is the first film that he has been in that his Godchildren could watch. But at the London premiere they were happy but also a little sad that he was a bad guy. He jokingly said, “finally, the baddest guy around and we can’t win here.” Welcome to parenthood Luke! 😉

The Cutting Room Floor

Be sure you check out the extras on the Blu-Ray when it comes out because according to Josh and Luke there were lots of great scenes on the cutting room floor that needs to be watched. One of the most memorable to both Luke and Josh was when Gaston hands LeFou his gun and it goes off in his hand. And then you just hear a cow die in the background.

Challenges

The fight sequence at the end was very demanding and it took lots of stunt rehearsals and training. Luke said that he was on a big cherry picker and raise it six feet, and then higher and he had to land on a beam. He jokingly said, it was like being Spiderman with long hair, and admitted it was a 42 foot leap all while acting like the beast. It was very challenging yet rewarding but also a trust exercise as well, so he was glad it made it into the final movie.

You can push your characters theatrically more than others but with Gaston, the lines on the page were theatrical enough in most cases. He had to be careful to not make a parody of himself and that was a fine line to stay within the realm of Disney realism and yet be a larger than life character.

Love Conquers Hate

Beauty and the Beast is such an iconic film because time and time again Love conquers hate every single time. While we as society often times judge a book by its cover so to speak, we need to learn to get to know the real person inside and learn what they are truly capable of. If just an ordinary girl like Belle can save the beast, what else could we conquer as a society if we worked together?

This is one interview that I will not soon forget and am very thankful we got a group shot to prove it really happened. Both Josh and Luke were amazing and it truly was like sitting down and chatting with a old friends. Be sure you head out on March 17th to watch Beauty and The Beast at a theater near you. I promise it will be worth the wait.

About Beauty and The Beast

The film, which brings the story and characters audiences know and love to life in a stunning, cinematic event, is directed by Bill Condon and features an extraordinary ensemble cast which includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Audra McDonald, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson.

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs.

Beauty and The Beast will be released in U.S. theaters on March 17, 2017.
