Bad Moms Fun Facts
*This post is part of a partnership with STX Entertainment, but regardless all opinions are 100% my own.
If you don’t like profanity or adult humor this post isn’t for you. From the writers of Hangover they are bringing a movie that is perfect for the midlife crisis’ that all moms feel at some point in their life. Bad Moms is coming to theaters on July 29, when in LA earlier this month I was able to see the movie as well as sit down with some amazing talent and get their perspective about the movie and of course being a Mom. It was a fun filled day complete with pampering, endless mimosas and of course some amazing interviews.
Today we are going to get into the minds of Producer Suzanne Todd, Writer/Director Jon Lucas & Writer/Director Scott Moore. We had a chance to sit down and chat with them about the movie. It was really a lot like sitting down with friends and having drinks while you discussed your friendship. We at first chatted about Flo Ridas performance the night before and how epic it was to have a performer like that all to ourselves (so to speak!)
Getting into a Mom Brain is like getting into a huge file cabinet that has thousands of things to do, remember, file and so much more, but one thing we all have in common is being parents. Whether you are a Mom, Dad, or no a parent yet the movie Bad Moms will have you laughing so hard your sides will hurt. But the writers and producers did an amazing job capturing all of the “momisms”. They got into the minds of moms the best way they knew how and that was is how Bad Moms was born.

Most of the time moms are stressed out, Scott and John’s wives included, so they quickly became the inspiration behind the film. They had parties, drank lots of red wine and enjoyed the stories from real life moms. All moms love being a mom, but husbands often times don’t notice things that they do on a daily basis. It is the difference between a man and a woman in a sense. For example, one of the scenes in the movie lists foods you aren’t supposed to eat. To a dad that is like a foreign language to a mom, your like oh I’m thankful they sent a list! There are lots of rules and it is overwhelming to say the least!
What do they want you to take away from the movie?
- It is ok to do less!
- Do 5 percent less and spend 5 percent more time taking care of yourself or hanging out with the kids.
- Have fun in your life.
- Just do less and enjoy more.
- It’s ok not to be perfect! Most parents don’t know what the f–k we are doing, we just do it the best way we know how.
Enjoying time with your kids is more important than making the perfect lunch.–Suzanne Todd
Bad Moms Fun Facts
Jon and Scott wrote an incredibly funny script that is hard to believe that it was written by men.
This outrageous comedy caters to women more than any other show that has been produced in the past.
Bad Moms is funny because 99 percent of moms we know are really, really great moms. So, a bad mom is funny, but a bad dad is not.
Moms are loyal, they are real, have money (some of the time) and they schedule shit….Like, they’re a Mom.
Bad Moms are really best moms because it’s what a real mom is right? ****YES, YES, YES! Just do your best!
Embrace scruffy hospitality, invite your friends over even when your house is messy. Spend some time catching up with friends and ignore being picture perfect.
Being a mom is hard, but dealing with other moms is tough. The movie brings to life so many truths that every mom can see themselves in almost every mom.
Casting the Moms
The casting process is complicated because there is a lot of alchemy, luck and chance. But, it is sort of the most important part of filmmaking, if you cast your movie right, that’s more than half the battle. That’s like 90 percent of the movie. They cast has to be amazing, super talented and of course work well together. But as the auditions went on they remember it just popping with most of the actresses for their parts.
Sitting down with Kristen Bell and going you’re so Kiki, because she was just so sweet and adorable and bouncy and innocent and silly that it’s like there was no question that that’s the role that defined her.
And when we sat down with Christina Applegate, it’s like super talented, very funny, but also I was a little scared of her. I’m like that’s a Gwendolyn, she has some balls to her that she’ll like run a room.
They didn’t intend to hire all moms, it just kind of worked out like that because it gave them a real edge they could apply to the movie. They’re giving you stuff to add into the movie, and there’s nothing better than that.
There’s a view of motherhood when you’re not a mom yet that’s way more Hallmark and sweet and backlit. Being a mom means you are up at three in the morning, there’s shit on the wall, It’s brutal. It’s a war. It’s a physical battle. It’s like motherhood is an R-rated job. Like, motherhood is not PG. It’s certainly not G. Motherhood is dirty. There’s a lot of stuff. It’s messy. It’s not pretty and clean and your hair looks great.
About Bad Moms
In this new comedy from the writers of The Hangover, Amy has a seemingly perfect life – a great marriage, over-achieving kids, beautiful home and a career. However she’s over-worked, over-committed and exhausted to the point that she’s about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-stressed moms on a quest to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities – going on a wild, un-mom-like binge of long overdue freedom, fun and self-indulgence – putting them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn and her clique of devoted perfect moms.
