Buy Birthday Presents Without Going Bust

When it comes to getting birthday presents for our loved ones, it’s easy for it to add up. After all, you want to spoil them rotten for their birthday. And they probably have a whole list of items they would like as gifts. Therefore, it’s easy to end up spending more than you can afford. But then your family will be struggling for money for months to come if you overspend. However, buying presents doesn’t have to leave you out of pocket. In fact, here are some ways you can buy birthday presents without going bust.

Set a budget for the gifts

A lot of people go shopping without thinking about how much they want to spend. But this is a big error if you do this. After all, it means you might buy gifts which add up to more than you can afford. And if you aren’t keeping track of what you are spending, it’s easy to go overboard. Therefore, before you head to the shops, it’s a good idea to think about exactly what you want to spend on the birthday present. To help you, you should look at your current account and work out how much you can afford to spend. And then you can be realistic when it comes to the number. Also, once you have a budget in mind for the gift, you can start to think of ideas of what you might like to get them. After all, you can work out what realistically you can afford to get them. And think about what they might like as a gift for their birthday. If you head to the shop with a budget and ideas, you won’t go off track when it comes to shopping for the gift. And then you won’t have to spend ages paying off the present as you spent too much!

Look for coupons first

You might have something in mind for the birthday present. For example, it might be a specific toy or game if it’s for your child. Or it could potentially be clothing for your other half. But when you see the cost, it can leave you feeling glum. After all, it might be way more than you can afford. And then you don’t want to buy the gift as you will end up having to pay it off for years to come! So your idea often has to go to the back of your mind. However, it doesn’t have to be the case. After all, if you look online before you go to the shops, you might find a coupon which can help to reduce the item for you. And with a good percentage of the item, it can make it more affordable for you. Therefore, look online first for discounts off certain stores. For example, you can visit Coupon Sherpa
for good coupons which will give you a significant amount of an item. And even if there are no coupons at the moment, you should sign up with a couple of these sites. That way, if something does come up soon, you will receive an email informing you of the discount. And then you go to buy it when you get some money off the item!

Look for second-hand items

A lot of people feel unsure about buying a second-hand item for their friend or family member’s birthday. After all, they don’t want to look like a cheapskate by going for something that has already been owned. But there are actually some benefits for going for something which is second-hand. For one thing, it can save you a ton of money. After all, they are going to be priced a lot cheaper than an item you are going to buy brand-new from the store. And as the item has already been used, they won’t charge as much for the item. But a lot of the time, it can be just as good as something you can buy from the store. After all, if it’s only been used a handful of times, it will look as good as new. So your friend won’t know any different that the item is actually second-hand! You can either look in thrift shops to find something second-hand which will make a good gift, or you can look online on auction sites. And don’t forget to look through your old belongings. After all, you might have actually got something for your birthday or Christmas that you don’t want or need. But could actually make a fab gift for your friend or family member!

And once you have got a great present, you then start to worry about the birthday party!

When my son was younger I would give him a budget of $10.00 to spend on a birthday gift for his friend(s). He figured out that he could find a really nice gift for his friend for LESS THAN THE TEN dollars and then use the remaining balance to purchase a gift for himself!!! I have to say that even though this was not the original lesson I was trying to teach, he was very resourceful and content with his purchases!!!

That’s precious! There’s nothing wrong with saving and using a little for yourself too!
