Traveling is always fun! There is an adventure around every corner and I was recently on a trip to Jefferson Parish, Lousisiana. My flight out of Kansas City came in over 20 minutes early and I was ready with my bag in hand to tackle the next adventure. Getting transportation, so I called the hotel and they said they would send a driver right on out. So the customer service was already starting off great! I arrive at around 9 am ready to just check my bag with the front desk but they let me check into my room early which was amazing!! After a quick break of un-packing I got the laptop out and tied up a few loose ends.

But that is when the phone rang, you know the hotel phone that you never use! So I answered it, it was the front desk clerk making sure my room was fine and if I needed anything. You have got to be kidding me…I’ve checked into LOTS of hotels over the years and I’ve never had any of them do that. Erin went above and beyond to make me comfortable and for that I am more than grateful. After working for a couple of hours using the free wi-fi I decided it was time to go exploring. But my first rule of traveling is talk to the locals so I went to the front desk. Erin was still there and of course had lots of suggestions on what I should do.

Original Hurricane from Pat Obreins

After talking to her about what I needed to do while there I learned that I should have a Hurricane at Pat O’Breins, check out the French Quarters and of course check out all New Orleans had to offer. Since I was spending the day alone I downloaded the Uber App and requested a ride to the French Quarters. While chatting with the driver he told me about a market area that I should check out so we changed my destination and within 15 minutes I was in New Orleans. So if you are traveling to New Orleans be sure and stay at the Country Inn and Suites because it’s just a short drive.

French Market NOLA

First up was a little bit of shopping at the French Market. It turned out to be a fun filled morning with lots to see and do. Then I aimlessly wandered around the French Quarter as well as the Mississippi River bank and of course found my way to Bourbon Street. There was so much to see and do that I literally walked 7 miles just watching, observing and being a tourist. I even enjoyed a little bit of “down” time  without my phone in my hand and just enjoyed the day.

Saint Louis Cathedral Big Church in French Quarter

After seeing all of the sites I had on my list I used the Uber app to get a ride and was back on my way to Country Inn and Suites. The ride back cost a little more than the ride down did and that was because of a higher tax rate. (Another reason to stay in Metairie!) And was welcomed with a new desk clerk who was just as friendly as Erin. Every staff member I came into contact with was very friendly and eager to make my stay amazing. I took the time to unwind around the pool and fire pit before getting ready for our first “official” meal. We dined at the Acme Restaurant that is part of The Louisina Oyster Trail (more on that to come!!)
