Banana-Pie

Here is a scenario you might recognize. You are on your way to a dinner party or cookout when you realize you were asked to bring a dessert to share. Payday is still a few days away, and you have less than an hour to pull it all together. What do you do? The answer is sweet and simple: You whip up one of your favorite dollar store desserts, Nana Nilla Pie!

If you have $3.00, a few basic ingredients, plus 45 minutes to spare, you can easily whip up this tasty and appealing dessert. Take a look at how easy (and frugal) this fabulous dessert is! You can create it with dollar store ingredients and just a few fresh items from home. Take a peek!

Nana Nilla Pie:
Ingredients:
1 box of vanilla wafer cookies ($1.00 at local dollar store)
1 large box of instant banana pudding ($1.00 at local dollar store)
1 graham cracker pie crust ($1.00 at local dollar store)
1 large fresh banana (I had on hand)
2.5 cups of cold milk (I had on hand)

Directions:
1. Cut your banana into thin slices and set aside.
2. Mix your banana pudding according to box directions. Basically, you will stir in 2.5 cups of cold milk with the pudding mixture until a firm and smooth fixture is formed.
3. Take your banana slices and layer them on the bottom of the pie crust.
4. Pour your pudding mixture into the crust pan, over the banana layer.
5. Take a dozen vanilla wafer cookies into crumbles and set aside.
6. Taking whole vanilla wafers, create a border around the outside of your pie.
7. Fill in the center of the pie with your crumbles.
8. Accent the pie with a few pieces of sliced bananas for little extra touch.
9. Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes until set.

Vanilla Pie

Only $3.00 and 45 minutes later, you can have this sweet tasting (and looking!) Nana-Nilla pie! You can’t buy a grocery store pie for that cheap! This is the perfect dessert for when you are in a pinch not only time wise, but financially. The best part is, you don’t have to sacrifice looks or taste as it is still a delicious dessert with lovely visual appeal. Enjoy!
