Exploding Ore Cupcakes
Coming up with fun things for my nieces and nephews is always at the top of my to do list. But this time my niece Kenna and I got busy baking in the kitchen! We had a wonderful day filled with sweets, laughs and even a few messes. But I will have to say that these Exploding Ore Cupcakes were a hit with everyone! After my visit to Dreamworks Animation and a chance to voice Revvit I got to thinking about what I could do to help make the perfect DinoTrux Party. Because the Reptools and DinoTrux eat Ore I knew that Exploding Ore Cupcakes were the perfect addition to our party. These cupcakes and Ore Bites will keep them crushing, smashing, moving, lifting, pushing, and going strong, to get it all done just like DinoTrux.
To make these cupcakes I bought a simple yellow cake mix at my local store, used white cupcake liners I had on hand and baked them. But after they cooled is when the fun really began! We used a melon baller to pull out a circle in the middle of the cupcake. As you can see it wasn’t exactly the middle, but you get the idea.
After you cut the hole, you then pour your Pop Rocks® candy in the middle of the cupcake. Put the middle that you cut out back on top of your cupcake and set it to the side.
After you fill your cupcakes with Exploding Ore you are ready for the frosting. We made up a batch of butter cream frosting using
1 cup shortening
1 package of cream cheese
4 cups powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons Milk
And mixed it all together using the electric mixer until it was fluffy. Then we used bowls to make it different colors because we had several projects going on that day. But most of it remained white for our Exploding Ore Cupcakes.
After you get your cupcakes frosted it is then time to pour a few Pop Rocks over the top of them for a finishing touch. Just be ready for lots of popping and cracking if your climate is as humid as ours. These Exploding Ore Cupcakes sure didn’t long around here!
