Fun for all: great toys to suit the whole family
Nowadays, when a family consists of busy working parents, and schoolchildren with numerous extra-curricular activities, it is difficult to find time where the whole family can be together. What can be even more difficult, in a world of video games and reality TV, is finding something exciting and fun to do with that time! Here are a few suggestions for fun with all the family:
1. Car Racing Tracks
You know the ones: your fingers pressed devotedly to the trigger whilst your car zooms around the tracks, your heart pumping fiercely as you smooth it off for the corners. Then maybe after a few rounds, you switch it up a bit and build yourself a whole new track, with ramps, bridges and a daring loop-de-loop!
Perhaps you played them as a child yourself, so now is the time to teach your children the technique and pass down the skills, before the big race against each other. After only a few laps, I can guarantee you’ll see the burning excitement on your little ones’ faces each time you bring them out from the cupboard under the stairs.
2. Nerf Battles
Nerf has been a top seller for several recent Christmas periods, and with good reason. The mutual use of Nerf guns is the indoor-safe, painless water fight, where the levels of fun available are not at all tied to a certain age or gender. Not to mention, since the release of the most recent additions to the Star Wars saga, The Force Awakens and Rogue One, there is an awesome range of Nerf gear that has hailed all the way from a galaxy far far away… the perfect twist for the Sci-Fi fanatic families amongst us.
There is a huge range of different types of foam-shooting ‘weapons’ that can be used to teach hand-eye coordination, teamwork and agility amongst the young ones in a complete family battle. Divide into teams, set out the sofas or garden furniture as barricades, and negotiate on a number of lives. Winners get a major prize!
3. Pokemon
Pokemon is a classic ’90s kid game, that was thought to be long gone for the most of us. However since the release of the mobile phone app Pokemon Go, last Summer, it has seen friends, couples and families out in the park catching Pokemon together! Furthermore, many people still Buy Pokémon Cards to trade with their friends and family. The Game Boy, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch version are said to remain hugely popular. But for those parents who strive to keep their family active, and inspire determination and strength in their offspring, a recent Promopony study recommends the Poke Ball toy, which allows the little ones to practise and perfect their Pokemon training skills.
4. Uno
Uno is a card game that relies on a mixture of playing the right cards and landing the best hand. The aim is to get rid of all your cards in a timely manner, and you can sabotage teammates along the way. It tends to bring out the competitiveness in those you would least expect it from, and the sassiness from those who are more confident.
For longer games, with more tension and excitement, give Uno Extreme a try. There are more action cards and more great ways to play Uno. Plus, instead of picking up a card when you cannot take a turn, Uno Extreme players press the button on the battery-powered machine, that will spit out anything between one and 12 cards!
Through toys and games that the whole family can enjoy, you can inspire creativity, problem-solving skills and ambition amongst your wonderful children. Whichever game your family prefers, it is important that every once in a while, you find fun, healthy alternatives to watching TV or leaving the kids to their isolating game consoles.
