Fun For Kids in Kansas City

Fun For Kids in Kansas City

Having lots of nieces and nephews I hear the famous “I’m bored” words a lot when they are over to visit. But every good Aunt has a plethora of things that they can do right?? Exactly! Here is how things work at my house when the I’m bored monster strikes.

1. Read a book

2. Play a board Game

3. Kids choice (TV show, Internet, Movie, Tablet)

4. Tell them to clean! I’m really just kidding but as a kid that is what I was told if I said I was “bored!” But because we are only about an hour from Kansas City we sometimes hop into the car for a fun filled day exploring. Check out the Top 8 Free Things to do in Kansas City too!

So here are some fun ideas for you to explore in Kansas City and surrounding areas.

Fun For Kids in Kansas City

The Kansas City Zoo is always one of our favorite places to visit. Although I do tend to stay away when it is hot because the animals aren’t nearly as active.

The  Water Play Grounds in Independence is a fun place to go where the kids can get wet and enjoy the water features. Water shoots, sprays and mists but my favorite part is that it is concrete so no mud in our vehicles when we are done! If your kids are smaller go in the mornings to beat the crowds and the older kids. There is even a skate park for the older kids to enjoy.

Shatto Milk Company

Shatto Dairy Farm is in Osborn, MO and outside of the “Kansas City” area but it is worth the drive! Be sure you call ahead for a farm tour.

Burr Oaks Conservation Area has a great nature center but you can go to any State Park and find something to do while you are visiting. Most of them have hiking trails, fishing areas, picnic areas, animal wildlife you can watch and much more.

Deanna Rose Farm is in Overland Park but it is a fun 1900’s turn of the century farm that you can visit. Complete with a general store, wagon rides, pony rides and lots of fun activities for kids of all ages!

Schlitterbahn Kansas City

Schlitterbahn Water Park has lots of water fun for the entire family! From Raging Rapids, Lazy Rivers, Boogie Bahn and everything in between Schlitterbahn Kansas City is the coolest  destination for your summer fun.

Fritz’s is a train themed restaurant that kids of all ages will love to visit. There is one in Crown Center as well as one in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Once at your table you order your food via telephone and your food is delivered via a train once it is ready!

Kidscape in Johnson County is a hands-on-exhibit great for children ranging from 3 until 9 years old. We haven’t visited this one yet, but it is on our list.

Kaleidoscope is brought to you by Hallmark and is an inside activity for those rainy days! But the best part is that it is FREE and allows kids to use their imaginations.

Kansas City SeaLife Aquarium and LegoLand Discovery Center are also inside activities that are perfect to keep under your hat for those pesky rain days.

Things to do in KC

Or you can even head out to Crown Center to the Coterie Theater or their free activity section in level 1. It changes several times a year, so it is always fun to check out.

But no matter what you decide to do it will be fun for both you and the kids!

NEW TOY? – Everyone’s favorite pull-string cowboy sheriff Woody, along with his best friends Buzz Lightyear and Jessie, are happy taking care of their kid, Bonnie, until a new toy called “Forky” arrives in her room. According to Forky, a spork-turned-craft-project, he’s not a toy at all—and he’d rather skip this big adventure completely, if only they’d let him. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack return as the voices of Woody, Buzz and Jessie, and comedian Tony Hale lends his voice to Forky. Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”), “Toy Story 4” ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.
