I’m Heading to San Francisco for the Good Dino Event
*Disclosure: I received an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for the coverage of several press events for Disney. All opinions are 100% my own.
In just a few short days I’m heading to San Francisco for a trip of a lifetime! San Francisco has been on my Bucket Travel list for as long as I can remember thanks to my childhood love of Full House, The Golden Gate Bridge and of course The Painted Ladies. As I’ve gotten older some of my interests have shifted through the years thanks to Mr. SMSL and his love for all things “corrections” related such as shows on Alcatraz, which is also on my bucket list of things to see. I do love a good boat ride of course and I’m sure there are more reasons that I could list but most importantly for this trip is the fact that I’m going with Disney-Pixar!!
Why you ask?? For lots of fun things including Inside Out and of course Riley’s First Date?
From the imaginative minds of Disney-Pixar comes Inside Out on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere October 13th and on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray Combo Pack and On-Demand November 3rd! Additionally, along with the extensive line-up of bonus features including deleted scenes, the theatrical short film LAVA and “Paths to Pixar: The Women of Inside Out,” comes the all-new animated short “Riley’s First Date?” For a hilarious sneak peek of the brand-new short please view the in-home trailer below!
Kyle MacLachlan (voice of “Riley’s Dad”) & Kaitlyn Dias (voice of “Riley”)
Phyllis Smith (voice of “Sadness”) & Richard Kind (voice of “Bing Bong”)
Pete Docter (Director of INSIDE OUT) & Jonas Rivera (Producer of INSIDE OUT)
I think I am most excited about Phyllis Smith, although I’m not sure why!

Then, we are heading to the Pixar Animation Studio (who would have ever dreamed that one!) Where we will screen Sanjays Super Team in 2D and interview Director Sanjay Patel & Producer Nicole Grindle. And as if that wasn’t enough we will also get a sneak peak into The Good Dinosaur. My first ever Disney trip I was lucky enough to see the film Frozen in it’s rough stages I’ve been even more in love with Disney and animation than I ever thought possible.
Then we will have a chance to meet and talk to Director Peter Sohn & Producer Denise Ream to hear stories from their research trips.
Millions of years ago dinosaurs roamed the Earth but were wiped away with an asteroid. What is they are all gone except for maybe just one?? Check out the preview for The Good Dinosaur and get a glimpse into this must watch film on Thanksgiving 2015!
U.S. Release Date: November 25, 2015

As if that wasn’t enough we will then Tour of the Pixar Campus as well as a tour through Pixar’s archive warehouse in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of TOY STORY! I was only 18 when the first Toy Story came out so I am sure this one will be a treat to see and I’ve got strict instructions to bring back Woody for our daughter. After that we will have a chance to see color scripts from the film with Sharaon Calahan who is the (Director of Photography – Lighting).
We will hear from Screenwriter Meg LaFauve and Story Supervisor Kelsey Mann how the story gets developed and boarded, and learn how to draw your own Arlo! How fun will that be??
We will also find out how the Art department designed the different dinosaurs in the film and their surrounding environments from Production Designer Harley Jessup. Which is always one of my favorite parts of these trips.
We will explore with Supervising Technical Director Sanjay Bakshi and Effects Supervisor Jon Reisch how the Effects team created different environments using effects to support the storytelling.
Then we will get to act like Dinos with Supervising Animator Mike Venturini and Animator Kevin O’Hara. They will give you an animation demo highlighting the reference used by animators to inform the movement of the dinosaurs. Which is also fun! After that we will learn about creating the expansive world in the film with Sets Supervisor David Munier, and hear how the team used actual USGS data of the northwest United States to create the sets.
The Good Dinosaur will be in theaters everywhere November 25, 2015!

The next day we will go to the Walt Disney Family Museum where we will have a guided tour of the museum, have lunch and learn all about Walt Disney! This is just one of the activities that I’ve wanted to do in San Francisco for a long time, so I am proud to be a Disney supporter and head out on this adventure! I’ve been a Disney fan since I can remember but my love of Walt Disney started in the Fourth Grade. (I’ll fill you in on that one later.)
