Heart Cakes Recipe

Heart Cakes Recipe are easy to make, use cake mix and can be made in no time which is why they are a last minute Valentine’s Day treat!! I always have good intentions, but for the most part it is the day before or even the day of before I remember I need to make treats for my family. So this recipe is perfect for those last minute dashes!!
You can use Strawberry cake batter or Vanilla cake batter (made pink with food color) whichever you have on hand works perfectly. I happened to have a vanilla cake mix on hand this time around. Make it according to the directions on the box then remove 1/4 of the batter and add red food coloring to darken it. Just be careful because you don’t want red hands, then you are ready for the next step!!

Pour light batter into jelly roll or cookie pan, then you take the darker pink batter and pour it on top of light batter. Then with a spoon or knife swirl them together to make the cake look like is marbled. Bake according to directions on the box, remove from oven then cool.

Once your cake is cooled use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts. Then you can decorate a plate with frosting or even decorate your hearts.
Here is the recipe for the frosting.

Strawberry Cream Cheese icing

  • ½ stick butter softened (beat until creamy)
  • 4 oz. cream cheese softened (add to butter and beat until creamy)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Strawberry extract
  • ¼ – ½ cup of milk
  • Red food coloring ( a few drops)

Mix butter and cream cheese mixture with powdered sugar slowly until blended, add a few drops of red food coloring. Add strawberry extract and ¼ cup of milk. As you mix, add milk to create a glaze consistency (like honey).
