Homemade Chili Recipe
Homemade Chili is something that I had to “learn” how to make and while some people swear their recipe is the best in the world, mine is just easy. I am no expert by any means, but when I finally learned how to make chili life became a little easier and I got a lot less ribbing from Brady. But I’ve also learned that when you fix one thing he picks on me about, he usually finds another one quickly. But that is a whole new post in and of itself! 🙂 Today’s we are talking Homemade Chili with beans of course (I know some regions don’t do beans so you can leave them out if you want.)
We always start with a chopped small onion and frozen hamburger, about a pound or double if you want leftovers or have a bigger family. Ours is usually supper and then lunch the next day with leftovers for another meal like chili dogs when I want a fast meal.
Brown the hamburger and onions. Then, add your can of tomato juice, we like beans so we use 2 cans of chili beans I also use two packages of chili seasoning but I learned the hard way that McCormick’s brand is our favorite. Then, I turn it down on low and let it simmer for a couple hours.
Serve hot with crackers, shredded cheese, sour cream and onions if you wish. We have it all out on the table so we can dig in once it has simmered for a couple of hours.
Then when we have had our fill of chili we freeze it for chili dogs or chili pies. It has saved me more than a few times from having to heat up the kitchen that is for sure!
