Camping often gets a bad rap. People think its “messy, dirty, grungy, inconvenient,” etc… but it doesn’t have to be any of those things! We’re obviously not talking about jumping out into the wilderness armed with nothing but a tent and the clothes on your back. We’re talking about having all the things you need to have a nice, comfortable stay in the outdoors!
If you plan accordingly, camping can be an enjoyable experience that brings you a little bit closer to nature without pulling you too far away from your creature comforts.
Here are some tips on how to camp with all of your comforts in-toe.
Think About What You Normally Use At Home
Think about the daily comforts that make things easier for you at home. Then think about which of those would be practical to bring with you camping.
One of the most convenient and overlooked things are tables. Instead of having to pile all of your stuff on the dirt or eat while sitting on the ground, you can feel a bit more human and civilized by considering folding camp tables as part of your packing list.
The best part is they’re foldable and portable, so you’re not sacrificing limited space.
Find a Bona-fide Camping Site
A lot of the “grime and dinginess” of camping comes from a lack of modern plumbing. There is also a lack of being able to bathe and clean your body off daily as you normally would at home. Luckily, these issues are resolved by setting up shop at a a camping site!
These areas are set up with campers in mind. The facilities are external, meaning you’ll have to walk to them if “nature calls” in the middle of the night. However, you’ll have all the basic necessities like bathrooms, running water, and showers. Some places even offer laundry rooms!
Make Sure You Have Hot Water
Nothing says “good morning!” like a glorious cup of hot
Having a portable water boiler opens up your food options to things like oatmeal or even cooking an actual hot meal! Couple that with your portable camping table and you are set!
Splurge on Sleeping Equipment
While you definitely don’t have to have the nicest or newest stuff to enjoy camping, you’ll want to make sure you have good equipment to sleep with. Bad sleep can ruin even the best day.
Invest in a spongy mat, or an inflatable sleeping mat to separate you from the ground. Also make sure to have a sleeping bag, as you don’t know how cold it might get in the evening time.
A comfortable night’s rest will set you up for success for tackling the nuances that come with camping.
You Don’t Have to Buy The Newest Stuff
You don’t have to splurge a bunch of money, buying the nicest, newest equipment to enjoy camping. If you’re unsure about the whole camping thing, or you have never been before, a lot of places will offer their equipment up for rent. That way, you can test out the waters before making any huge commitments to a giant tent you’ll never use again.
Use Your Car!
If all else fails, there is no shame in “roughing it” in your car! Especially if you have a bigger van, you can lay the seats down and make a nice “tent” in the back of your vehicle.
You don’t have to worry about bugs or temperature control, and you’re still just one layer away from nature.
