How to Discover the Best Scenic Locations While Traveling

Family

When you travel, you want to find the most breathtaking scenic locations on your trip. However, it isn’t about luck. Finding these locations is more about knowing where to look, how to plan, and how to balance your itinerary with spontaneity so you can stumble across places that most people will miss.

Whether you are cruising coastal highways or wandering through national parks, you want to know how to uncover the kind of views that take your breath away and stay with you long after the trip ends.

To help you on your journey, here are some top tips to help you discover the best scenic locations when traveling.

Research with intention

Before you jump into booking your travels, spend a little time researching the type of scenery that you want to experience. Do you want to see forests, serene lakes, dramatic cliffs, or desert landscapes? Defining your vision can help you look in the right places, rather than casting too wide a net and not finding anything.

Remember to consider things like seasonal changes and the time of year that you are traveling. This might reveal problems, or it could open up more opportunities.

Consider your method of travel

It can be helpful and increase your chances of scenic views when you are strategic with your travel. For example, traveling in an RV and staying in an RV park nestled in nature is going to already get you started off on the right foot. Driving around means you can easily explore new places, and setting up your base in a scenic location increases your chances.

Speak to the locals

The locals are going to be the best guides that you will ever come across. They will know all about the unmarked trails, access points, quiet overlooks, and scenic drives. Travel blogs, Instagram, and Pinterest are excellent sources of information, but they are often filled with other tourists trying to seek the same view. There is also a phenomenon of the “reality vs social media” effect, where so much editing has happened to increase attention on social media, that many people are feeling let down when they visit somewhere themselves.

Go slow

Many people will make the mistake on their travels to rush around from one place to the next, to squeeze in as much as they possibly can. However, this can lead you to miss incredible views that could be right in front of you, or just a few steps away. When you travel slowly, you can appreciate what you see, while also allowing scenic moments to naturally unfold.

While you are traveling around, especially if you are driving, it is a good idea to pull over often. A small, unplanned turn could lead you to a hidden gem or even a different angle.

Finding the best scenic locations takes a mix of spontaneity and preparation. Use maps, local people, and slower travel to help you create a memorable trip with breathtaking moments.
