Mondays, new years or even new months all have in common one thing: they are the most popular times to make a new goal and start over. But there is no such arbitrary thing, no matter what day is today, you can get started now to accomplish your goals and you shouldn’t be discouraged if your New Year’s resolutions didn’t pan out as you wished. No need to wait another year to start over, today can be that day.
When you are ready to make a change in your life, the day of the week, the month, or the time of the year doesn’t matter at all. When you truly get fed up and you are ready to really make a change, you will start working on it immediately.
Why postpone success? Monday doesn’t have any magical powers and the first day of a new month isn’t sprinkled with fairy dust. No need to “take it a day at a time,” either, you can take it an hour at a time.
Every single hour is a chance to help you reach your goal. Let’s say for example that you want to cut down on your alcohol consumption. If that is your goal, you can start doing it right now. Sure, it is January and it may be encouraging to know that most people in the USA are cutting back on their alcohol consumption because of Dry January, but you can do it any time of the year or any hour of the day.
Or say your goal is to workout more. You can get up right now, put your shoes on and go take a stroll down your street (or walk around your backyard) for a few minutes.
You’ve already gotten started and when the next hour rolls around get up and do 10 jumping jacks or jog in place for 5 minutes! There is absolutely no reason you can’t start working toward your goals now.
Or say your goal is to do some DIY projects this year. It is daunting and seems unattainable at first but you need to take things step by step and then complete each step separately. Once you outline all the steps that need to be taken, you will have many small victories too. For example if you are doing a craft project with wood, you don’t need to jump for that extra spark with mica powder and the finishing details. Design your craft on paper, take your wood or whatever material you will use, cut it, pour some epoxy inside and later mix it with it with mica powder for that added touch of color.
Thousands of words could be written with tips and strategies on how to reach your goals, but that would all be a ton of fluff because there is only one thing one needs to do and that is act. No amount of strategies and tips are going to do anything for you without action.
One of the best strategies is to sit down right now with a sheet of paper and write each remaining hour of the day, until you go to bed. Next to each hour, you can write one small action you are going to take to reach your goal.
All you have to do now is one small thing from that paper each hour and check it off. Checking it off will feel really good! Not to mention you will be one hour and one step closer to reaching your goal.
Attitude is everything, and whatever your resolutions are, whether it is about living a more healthy life, living a more frugal life or becoming a better cook, things won’t change suddenly but gradually.
