Ideas on Organizing Your Kitchen

Home & Organization

The kitchen is by far the most crucial room in most homes. That is the place where family members and guests will meet to catch up, cook, and eat. It Is the place that ties people together since it is the center of every other activity that goes on around your home. That said, the kitchen must be appropriately organized and spotlessly clean. Organizing the kitchen will help you reduce moving around, especially when you need something. It will also help you bring out the best since it is easier to make a good meal when you can easily access what you need.

Tips to help you organize your kitchen

1. Invest in kitchen cabinets

In most cases, the kitchen cabinets talk more about the design and layout of your kitchen. It is the first thing that your guests will spot. As much as they are a beauty in the kitchen, they help you save space. Instead of everything lying on the kitchen counter, you can have the cabinets hold most of the items used in the kitchen. There are many options to choose from, including solid wood kitchen cabinets or refaced kitchen cabinets to modern and cabinets.

2. Declutter your kitchen

The most crucial part of organizing the kitchen is to have a lot of clear space and having the countertops as accessible as possible. In most homes, kitchens are usually cluttered. People tend to buy a new set of utensils just because they are beautiful. It may not be because they need them at all. That means that the kitchen will be so full at one time, and if not properly organized, then one will take a lot of time to find what they need. Think about every utensil or appliance in the kitchen. Is it important? Do you need it? If you don’t, what is the need to keep it? Put all the things you do not use in the storage or donate to the community. As you declutter, take your time to clean everything you need before arranging them in the cabinets and drawers.

3. Group your cabinets and drawers

Now that you have everything you need ready and clean, take your time to know what goes where. For example, have a drawer for the cutlery, a cabinet for the tea set, and another for the dinner plates. That means you know exactly where to find what when you need it. You would also consider having a space for the things you use every day. That includes the pans, pots, spatulas, chopping boards, and dishes. Food storage materials such as Ziploc bags and food wraps should be neatly arranged in a cabinet near the fridge.

Dry foods such as cereals and spices should not lie on the countertops. Have a pantry for that purpose. Appliances that are not used daily should also be stored in the pantry to have enough space on the counter. Don’t let the area under the sink stay idle. You could consider investing in a cabinet that will hold cleaning agents and detergents. That means that when you need to clean, you know exactly where to get your cleaning items.

4. Have storage containers in your pantry

Most cereals will come from the shops packed in boxes and packing papers. Did you know that storing the grains in them will be space-consuming and too disorganized? The best thing you can do when organizing the pantry is to invest in storage containers. If possible, let them be colorless so that it is easy to see what is in the container. That means less time when trying to identify what you want to cook.

You could, as well, divide the pantry into sections. For example, have a space for tea or coffee accessories, space for food spices, and another for cookware that you do not use often.

5. Be creative

An organized kitchen doesn’t mean that it has to be boring. Spruce up the kitchen as much as possible. Try incorporating canisters that will serve as décor. Have attractive labels for your containers in the pantry. Invest in hanging storage baskets on free walls and a fruit bowl on your counter. You could also use the pantry door as storage. All you need to do is invest in a door rack.

Organizing a kitchen doesn’t have to be expensive. There are a lot of do-it-yourself ideas that you can implement to get a neat and organized kitchen.
