6 Inexpensive Ways to Update Your Look for Fall
Cooler weather, changing leaves, and favorite autumn foods all make fall a time of year that many look forward to. One of the most interesting parts about the season, however, is the chance to update your look.
Leave behind the sandals, swimsuits, and tank tops of summer and get your style ready for fall this year. Here are a few ways to begin your fashion journey!
Commemorate Halloween
Halloween screams autumn, so take advantage of the spooky holiday. Temporarily dye your hair a fun color.
Go to costume parties dressed as your favorite character. The best part is, you do not have to splurge on an expensive costume. Shop at cheap Halloween stores, Goodwill, or other recycled clothing stores. Or, try making your own! This option might be even cheaper and will allow you to explore your creative side.
Accessorize
Accessories can go a long way. Whether for fashion or warmth or both, stylish embellishments will make a difference in your look. Scarfs, boots, belt or gloves can tie together the perfect outfit. Beanies and hats are always a nice touch. Consider investing in a cute bag or trendy iPhone case for autumn. Designs with pumpkins, ghosts, or candy should get you in the spirit.
You can even stash your accessories away after fall and use them annually. No one will notice a reused pin or pair of socks from the year before.
Decorate Your House
They often say that one’s house is a reflection of yourself. Decking your house in fall décor might be enough to channel your own autumn look. Carve and line your door with pumpkins. Adorn your ceilings with cobwebs and plastic spiders. Light a fall-scented candle or hang lanterns.
You can even make your own crafts if you are feeling extra artistic. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
Get the Latest Fall Clothing
One of the best ways to make a statement this fall is with your wardrobe.
Denim, a great choice year-round, is no exception when it comes to a stylish autumn outfit. Use denim traditionally, like in jeans or a jacket, or get more imaginative. As always with this material, however, it is best not to be excessive.
Mix varying fabric textures. Why not try a concoction of silk, velvet, and polyester?
Additionally, you don’t have to ditch your summer wardrobe right away. Pair clothing meant for warmer weather with items such as jackets and leggings.
Even if you live in an area where the weather isn’t exactly stereotypical of fall, you can still participate. Wear autumn pieces that are thinner, so you can be both stylish and comfortable.
Look Chic with the Right Colors
Pay attention to your color choices. The “no wearing white after Labor Day” rule is typically archaic these days, but selecting the right colors is still important for an autumn look. Darker, earthier tones are always a safe bet, but don’t be afraid to be innovative. A pop of color can result in your outfits being more interesting.
Change Your Hairstyle
This one might seem a bit extreme, but autumn is a perfect time to change up your hairdo, especially if you are starting the school semester or going into a new job. You can make your first impressions without having to go through a drastic makeover in the middle of the season. Get in the spirit with a haircut or coloring that evokes feelings of autumn. If you are unsure how to go about this, research and get inspired! Look at popular styles on beauty websites specializing in hairstyles. Ask your stylist about the latest trends and communicate your vision for the perfect fall look.
Get your family and friends involved in the creative process! Don’t take it too seriously and have fun exploring your fall style.
Michele Pineda says
I am not sure about the changing my hairstyle tip, but I think choosing the right colors and getting a few pieces of clothing for the current season as well as accessories that fit in are great ways to be ready for Fall. Since boots are a big part of a Fall look, I try to pick up styles on clearance the season before in basic brown and black styles since they really don’t change much from year to year. So far, it has worked out well and my Fall boots are definitely affordable that way.
