Interviewing Sophia Bush The Voice of Voyd
Sitting down with actors and actress is always fun, because we learn so much about their characters, but also we learn about them as a person. Sophia didn’t do her voicing part with any of the other actors, it was just her and Brad in the room, which was a common theme. Because Brad Bird is a genius because he has it all played out in his head as to what he is getting from all of the characters. Which means he leads them in the direction he needs them to go in relationship to the other characters in the scenes.
How did Sophia become Voyd?
Sophia received an email about the role of Voyd, and became very emotional because it was a letter from Brad Bird himself on Pixar letterhead offering her the part. He told her who Voyd was and asked her to come and join the Incredibles family. Then at the bottom of the page are all of the Incredibles family in like this beautiful 2-D drawing. She was in a restaurant at the time having lunch and it was embarrassing because she screamed with excitement. Later she found out that her time spent at Pixar animation years ago, was how he knew she was perfect for the part.
Growing up Voyd
Voyd grew up looking to be like Elastigirl because she was a young girl that has powers and has to hide who she is because being a super is illegal. While we all know being a super in today’s society isn’t really a possibility, but it does have some parallels to our society. But we are breaking down those barriers and more often than not people who are different are seen in a different light.
Voyd is a young woman
Sophia has been fighting for equal rights for all women, which made Voyd really, really personal for her. It’s been a fight she has been a part of in her real life, and it helped her own the moment for this sweet girl in the recording booth. Voyd had a bold expression for her inner radicalness, but once she embraced her teleportation super power, she kind of bloomed into the women she was meant to be all along.
Technology & STEM
Sophia has always been interested in technology and because Voyd is a character in STEM she thinks it is really cool. She supports a company called Girls Who Code and she wanted to learn all of the things she could about the animation process and how it works from Pixar. She is a very encouraging woman to be around and encourages all women to learn and talk about science, technology, engineering, medicine, and owning what they can in those fields as well. Voyd and Sophia both are girls that we can have your younger girls looking up to and feeling great about it. She will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come both in Incredibles 2 and in real life.
Family is a pretty incredible thing no matter what family it is, but the Incredibles are a family that takes incredible to a whole new level. Is she having adolescence?
About Incredibles 2
In INCREDIBLES 2, Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose super powers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.

Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.
Directed by Brad Bird (“Iron Giant,” “The Incredibles”) and produced by John Walker (“The Incredibles”) and Nicole Grindle (“Sanjay’s Super Team” short, “Toy Story 3” associate producer),
“Incredibles 2” busts into theaters on June 15, 2018.
