Jodi Benson Interview the voice of Ariel
Disclosure: I attended the #DisneyPlanesPremiere and #LittleMermaidEvent. My flight, lodging and expenses were all covered by Disney. However, all opinions are my own.
Growing up watching The Little Mermaid several times through the years getting to meet the writers John Musker and Ron Clements felt like a dream. But the dream got even better when we got to meet Jodi Benson who is the voice of Ariel. She was honestly the nicest, sweetest lady I have met and I am honored to have been so lucky to meet her. It still feels like a dream that I get to re-live in my memory but in a lot of ways I think that Jodi Benson is Ariel and vice versa.
One of the questions we asked Jodi was this: “Would you give up your voice for love and elaborate?” Her answer was:
Yes, I-I would, it would be really hard, because singing is such a huge part of my life and the way that I communicate that, yes, for my husband I would.
Talk about true love for both The Little Mermaid as well as her husband! Jodi and her husband have been married for 30 years this coming May. She believes in true love and gets to sing with her husband because they both love it but their entire family sings, so that makes it even more special.
Her children grew up watching The Little Mermaid, but her son didn’t want her to sing songs from the movie. They just wanted their mom, not Ariel which makes sense. Her daughter shares her passion of singing and is taking on the singing role and starting to perform on her own. Jodi recommended that if your child shows a passion for something, that you embrace it and do everything you can do to empower them to do it.
Just like most of us Jodi grew up watching Disney films, but the movie she could relate to the most was Cinderella. She loved everything about it especially the part where she comes from one area and she wishes for something more. Everyone has a dream, a step to take and she suggests you just follow your heart.
I honestly could have talked to Jodi all day long. She was so down to earth, so friendly and just so open. Since the interviews she has appeared on shows like “The View.” I do have to admit though that I watched the episode in it’s entirety and felt like I was seeing a friend on the television. Yes, she is really that friendly.
I do have to admit, when Jodi Benson sang to us, I got goosebumps. It was more than amazing and even when I replay it, it feels like she is singing just to me. I know she has sang it to millions through the years, but there is something about a live performance especially for us that makes it magical. Please enjoy a glimpse into our interview and the video below that was captured when she sang “Part of Your World.”
