Kevin Costner the Sports Movie Legend
*Disclosure: I received an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for the coverage of several press events for Disney. All opinions are 100% my own.
Kevin Costner The Sports Movie Legend was the perfect Mr. White in the upcoming film McFarland USA. When I found out we would be interviewing him, the inner school girl in me started swooning. How cool was it?? I wish that I had words to express the amount of sheer joy and magnitude that was felt while he was in the room with us. But when he first walked into the room of 25 bloggers you could tell he was new to blogging, and quickly commented that “there’s is nothing more important or more demanding than a room full of mommies.” So kudos to Kevin Costner for knowing the influence all mom’s have in our own homes as well as beyond.
A perfect gentleman
We of course wanted to jump in with both feet asking him our burning questions, but he wanted our opinions. Say what?? He wanted it to be the very best for us, because he had never done this before, which was amazing in and of itself. He started with a Good morning and all of that and wanted our preferences, and then we got into the interview questions. Even a week later I still am pinching myself because who would have ever dreamed I would have been in the same room as Kevin Costner!!
I can honestly say that setting down to interview him was an amazing experience and one that I will forever cherish. He is a humble, honest, genuine, inspiring and of course a true legend in more than one way! He knew from a young age that he wanted the kind of life that you “make up” because he wasn’t very good at school and recess allowed him to be creative. As he grew older he found movies and movies are his “recess” because he can make up his own life as he goes along.
I wanted to be absolutely interested in everything I did.” Which is how I conduct my career, Kevin Costner.
Movies
Movies are an important part of Kevin’s life, but they are just the tip of the iceberg that the rest of the world sees. They are a small part of his life, the tip of the iceberg really. But every movie role he takes on is important to him as well as rewarding because he has to find them appealing. The sports films he has been involved in all include a common theme. They are all about the people in the movie, not necessarily the sports because we all want to see ourselves in the movie.
The rewarding part of McFarland is that it is a little story about Latinos and a community that he actually played against in high school. Which I believe helped him be the best he could be in this movie. The most emotional part of the movie for Kevin was before the last race because they found themselves in the last race. When you make someone feel like they belong, they start to feel like giants which is exactly what happened because they were willing to work at it. Kevin stated, “I hope somebody talks to my sons or daughters that way should I not be around, about what’s possible.” Which is what we all want for ourselves and our children, which makes him a true inspiration!
Fun Facts
- Kevin Costner hates running, which is why he enjoyed being the coach.
- The movie was about much more than the finish line.
- Follow your dreams and think big and live for your own recess!
Always exceed your own Expectations
No matter where we are at in life, there is a chance to do something else. We all have a job to do, but our life is still in front of us and the same things we want for our children, we should offer that up to ourselves. Which is one of the reasons Kevin Costner is great at his job, living his life and of course being an inspiration to everyone. So as the inner fan girl in me is still swooning, the interview brought out so much more. Remember to live your life so that you don’t miss your McFarland Moment!
Be sure to head to the theater to watch McFarland USA on 2/20! I promise you won’t be disappointed!
