If you’re a big wildlife lover, traveling to parts unknown to see the best creatures and critters that nature has to offer is definitely on your bucket list. Whether you’re going camping or you’re off on safari, you’ve got to pack with the animals in mind! And that means putting some thought into the kind of clothes, equipment, and toiletries you’re going to take with you. With those categories in mind, let’s go through some must-haves to take with you the next time you’re off on a wildlife adventure.
Neutral Clothing
If you’re wearing some neural colors and tones, you won’t stand out when you’re trying to hide in the brush or if you’ve brought some camo to lie under. Loud colors, as well as anything patterned beyond something that looks like leaves, are bad picks for wildlife tours!
So try to put as many earth tones in your suitcase as you can; browns and burgundies, dark oranges and reds, as well as deep greens and even some pale yellows. You can mix and match these when creating outfits, but always make sure you look like you’ve emerged from the undergrowth yourself!
A Pair of Binoculars
Binoculars, and particularly thermal binoculars, are one of the best items to pack before going wildlife watching. They’ll allow you to stay distant from any animals you come across while still allowing you to study the way they move, eat, and interact with other wildlife in the area.
And if you’re worried about the clarity or quality of the experience, don’t be! You’ll be able to see their body heat from afar, with other portions of the environment greyed out, meaning you’ll be able to see the action very clearly too!
Lots of Sun Protection
Being out to see the wildlife means you’re going to be under the sun all day long, even if you can’t see it. Yes, even when the clouds are fogging up the sky, you can get a burn from the rays that peak through!
As such, make sure you’ve got plenty of sun protection in your suitcase. From hats to sunglasses to suncream and afterburn lotions, pack it all and take them with you everywhere. The more kitted out you are, the safer you’ll be to stay out for hours on end.
In Your Toiletry Bag
If you want to get as close as possible to bugs and rodents, birds and badgers, or lions and tigers, you’ll need to pack carefully when it comes to toiletries. First rule: remove as many scented items as you can – animals will smell these from miles away.
Secondly, make sure you’ve got some bug spray and bite cream in there too. You never know when something is going to nip you during the night, and making sure you taste pretty nasty will leave your skin intact.
If you love wildlife, traveling to see it should be a pleasure. And if you pack right with these items, it will be!
