Midwest Weekend Getaways
Summer is the time for traveling and the SMSL family has caught the travel bug! This summer we have several travel plans in the works, but instead of traveling across the United States we are doing several weekend getaways instead of one long vacation. The beauty of traveling like this is that we don’t have to use vacation days and we get to see things that have been on our list to see for awhile now.
Because we are based in Missouri we have decided to travel to places that are within a four to six hour window away from home. Which allows us to reach Iowa, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Nebraska, Illinois, and Oklahoma just to name a few which means lots of fun places to visit this summer.
Some of our past adventures include St. Louis, Branson, Springfield, and Kansas City all located in Missouri. But this summer we are heading to Great Falls in Joplin, MO to check out one of America’s Most Scenic Destinations which is also Missouri’s largest continuous flowing waterfall. Cruising down Route 66 is at the top of our list to reminisce of times gone by and just a leisurely weekend getaway. While in the area we are also visiting Carthage, Missouri and the Precious Moments Chapel so it should be a busy weekend getaway!
The next trip we are going to visit Iowa to see the Amana Colonies as well as the Field of Dreams Movie Site! Some of our past Iowa travel destinations include The Bridges of Madison County, Antique Archaeology and the Worlds Largest Truck Stop.
I know that we have a few more short trips in the works, but we haven’t gotten them finalized just yet. But instead of paying cash like we normally do on family vacations we are paying for everything on our Discover Credit Card. Why Discover?? Because the rewards from using it are amazing!
