April 8th is National Empanada Day!!
April 8th is a day to celebrate one of the world’s most versatile and popular dishes; it is National Empananda Day! Empanadas are made of bread dough or pastry that is stuffed with filling, folded into a half moon shape, and then baked or fried. Their origins are traced back to regions of Spain and Portugal. While still most popular in South America and Spanish speaking European countries, empanadas are eaten in most parts of the world. Savory empanadas filled with beef, cheese, chicken, pork, or seafood, can be served as a main dish or as appetizers. Empanadas can also be filled with sugar and fruits and served as desserts. However you like them, be sure to celebrate by eating your favorite empanadas on April 8th!
