Newsies from Disney On Broadway
Disney’s NEWSIES on Broadway releases on Digital HD on 5/23
*I received a copy of Newsies The Broadway Musical and a goody box to help celebrate the release of this fun Broadway musical from Disney. However, as always opinions are 100% my own.
Being empty nesters we spend lots of time with nieces and nephews because coming over to our house is more fun than staying home. When I was asked about holding a Newsies movie night, I said, yes, because I knew the girls would love it. But if you haven’t had to work around a kids schedule you aren’t living right, because boy howdy are they busy between summer school, softball, and guitar lessons their schedule is fuller than mine. But that didn’t put a damper on our plans, we just had to plan a little farther in advance! When Newsies first started I could tell that Rain was going to be entranced during the whole movie, while I would be having flashbacks of things like Mary Poppins and Dick VanDyke singing and dancing. Jade was a trooper, but musicals that isn’t Descendants isn’t for her. Kenna was another trooper but she finally admitted to me that she liked it in the end.
Set in New York City at the turn of the century and based on a true story, Disney’s Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged “newsies,” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. Captured live on stage at The Hollywood Pantages Theatre in California, and following its record-breaking, in-cinema premiere for Fathom Events this not-to-be-missed high energy event features Jeremy Jordan, reprising the Tony nominated role he created as “Jack Kelly.” Jordan is joined by original Broadway cast members Kara Lindsay as “Katherine,” Ben Fankhauser as “Davey” and Andrew Keenan-Bolger as “Crutchie,” and North American Tour stars Steve Blanchard as “Joseph Pulitzer,” Aisha de Haas as “Medda Larkin,” and Ethan Steiner as “Les” along with members of both the Broadway and North American Tour ensembles, filling the stage with more “newsies” and more dancing than ever before. Bring it home on Digital, On Demand and Disney Movies Anywhere on May 23rd
