Ornament Cookies
Ornament Cookies are the perfect treat to bring to any holiday gathering or even a treat to leave for Santa. While the fun of having Santa Clause visit is over for us empty nesters, we make it a point to enjoy the nieces and nephews a little more each holiday season. These ornament cookies make the perfect treat for our nieces and even Brady enjoyed making them. So grab the kiddos and let’s get this holiday season started off right by making memories and messes because in the end the memories is what makes baking days so much fun.
You can use any sugar cookie recipe but this is the old stand-by that we use each holiday season. We have been making cookies for years as a family and it is still one of our all time favorite recipes.
6 C. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 C. butter, softened to room temperature
2/3 C. sugar
2 eggs
1 C. sour cream
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Combine the flour and baking powder and set aside.
In a large bowl combine the butter, sugar, egg, sour cream and vanilla. Slowly fold in the flour and baking powder mixture.
Scoop the cookie dough into 2″ balls and place about 2″ a part on a large baking sheet. Use a flat bottom glass to gently press (flatten) each dough ball to about 1/4″.
Bake 6-8 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let cool. *Makes approximately 36 cookies
Remember to leave the mail person, delivery drivers and neighbors some to help spread the holiday cheer. Or you can take some to the local nursing homes, veterans homes, or shelters, sometimes giving is better than receiving.
