Our Top-Tips for Great Kid’s Cosplay Costumes

Nowadays, cosplay has become such a big part of the cultural landscape that no one bats an eyelid at adults dressed up as their favorite character from X-Men, Star Wars costumes or whatever at a com convention. You know, cosplayers like to get loose as much as the next guy, just in their own way by dressing up like characters from kid media.

Our Top-Tips for Great Kid’s Cosplay Costumes

However, perhaps we are liable to forget that dressing up as someone from the movies is the most fun for kids. Kids are the people who enjoy pretending to be a character the most and perhaps they are the best at it they are really into the part when they get to play it.
If you’ve got a young one who’s just itching to go to comic con, or has a big costume party coming up, read on for our amazing cosplay ideas to give you some inspo.

Some of The Best Costumes are Kids Dressed as Kids
Kids dressed as adults can, of course, be really cute – especially when kids dress up as old people. One of the best cosplays we’ve ever seen was a little boy as the old man from‘Up’,complete with balloons and glasses and everything.
However, perhaps there’s nothing as cute as kids dressed up as kidsfrom their favorite films. Every year at comic conventions, people go crazy when they see a little girl dressed up as Eleven from Stranger Things, or a little boy dressed as Finn from Adventure Time. That’s because it’s just so cute to see real kids dressed as kids from the movies and TV.
One of our favorite kids-as-kids costumes was seeing a little boy dressed as Eliot from E.T., complete with bicycle and a little E.T. in the basket – he was so cute, he had us wishing for another kid!

Parent and Kid-Sidekick Costumes Are Insanely Cute
Parent and kid-sidekick costumes are just a delight to look at, and, a bonus is your kid will absolutely loveplaying dress-up with Mom or Dad. There are loads of duos from film and cinema that lend themselves really well to this costume concept. We absolutely love a photo we saw from one comic con of a dad dressed as Linguini from Ratatouille, with his little boy on his shoulders – dressed as Remy the Rat! It was so cute, and it had us in stitches.
Other great duos from film that work for parent-child costume combos are Batman and Robin – a classic, but a goodie, or Jessie and Woody from Toy Story.
If you’re feeling confident in the stability of your family unit, why not opt for a Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, or a Wicked Queen and Snow-White pairing? Those kinds of costumes are often really funny for you, your kids and onlookers.

Get the Pets Involved!
We say get the pets involved, but perhaps we really mean dogs – unless you’ve got some unusual pliant cats. Although, after consideration, lizards would perhaps also work.
At one comic-con, we saw the cutest costume of a little boy dressed as Han Solo accompanied by his pup – that was done up to look like Chewbacca! We think this costume works because it’s so funny, cute and appropriate – wookies really do look a bit like dogs.
If you have a bearded dragon your little one could be a little Khaleesi, or if you want to be super silly, put fake wings on your white dog while your kids dressed as Harry Potter and say it’s Hedwig.

Let Your Kid Make the Final Call
If you want your kid to be really happy and comfortable in their cosplay costume, let them make the final call. If you hate Pirates of the Caribbean, but your little swashbuckler wants to be Jack Sparrow, don’t try to force them into an Iron Man costume – let them choose. And check out this pirate costume for kids roundup while you’re at it.
After all, no one gets as much joy out of playing dress-up as kids. Help nurture their creativity and their sense of play by letting them dress as whoever they fancy from the movies. After you’ve had the perfect day out with them, you’ll be glad to have done it.
