The best small business owners are the ones who are always looking at ways to improve their companies and their productivity in particular. After all, the more productive a business is, the more profit it can, for the most part, make.
So, if you want your business to be the well-oiled productivity machine you know it can be, here are some small business productivity hacks you need to know about:
Work out what really matters
When you work out what really matters and what doesn’t, you can focus on completing those tasks that truly add value to your business and put others on the backburner. After all, tasks that add value and bring in money are the ones you need to give your time and attention to if you want to see your business grow.
Delegate based on ability
For those tasks it doesn’t make sense for you to do yourself, find the member of your staff who is actually good at each task and assign it to them (if you don’t know who is good at what, this could be the perfect time to carry out a skills audit of your staff). Delegation is the mark of a good small business owner because you really can’t do it all on your own, and if you try, you will inevitably burn out and your business will be all the worse for it.
Use productivity tools
If you aren’t using productivity tools, whether it be corrugated shipping boxes that can be quickly assembled by your team or time-tracking apps that help you to better organize your working day, then you are missing a trick and you are never going to be as productive as you could be. The tools are readily available, so why not use them?
Collaborate
This might not work for all businesses in all cases, but more often than not, when you get your team together to collaborate solutions are found more quickly, work is finished faster and everyone gets to go home on time knowing that the business is heading in the right direction.
Single-task
You and your employees should give up multi-tasking if you want your business to be as productive as possible. Although most people think that multitasking is a more efficient use of time, studies say otherwise. When you multi-task you either end up spending more time on each task overall or you do a poorer job, neither of which is going to do your business any good, so be sure to focus on one thing at a time.
Have a plan
When you plan ahead, you know exactly where you are going and what needs to be done, so you don’t all waste valuable time and money trying to work out what you need to do today or tomorrow or next week – you already have a rough idea as outlined in your business operation plan. Seriously, it will save you so much time.
These productivity hacks may be pretty basic, but they really will help your small business to improve efficiencies and be more competitive within your niche, so be sure to implement as many of them as you possibly can.
