Quick & Easy Ways To Bugproof Your Home (No More Annoying Flies!)

Family

Why are there so many bugs in your home? You see flies lingering on walls, small ants on the floor, and who knows what that thing is by the patio doors! Bugs love sneaking into properties and causing havoc, if only on a small scale. They’re really annoying and make your home less enjoyable to live in. So, how do you bugproof your home and say goodbye to these pests? It’s not actually that hard; here are some simple ideas:

Seal off any possible entry points

Where are these bugs coming from? Some entry points are obvious – like open windows and doors – while others remain slightly more hidden. That tiny gap in the seals around your windows may seem like an innocent thing, but it’s how lots of bugs sneak their way into your home. The same goes for any air vents in your property; if something creates a gap, bugs will come through.

So, seal off these entry points:

  • Replace worn seals or weatherstripping around windows
  • Use a mesh cover over air vents

Cut down on the ways in which a bug can enter your property, and you’ll keep your home beautiful without these pests invading your privacy.

Install screens on windows & patio doors

Get yourself window and door screens that fit onto the frames and provide a mesh covering that stops bugs from flying in. It’s honestly the best way to bugproof your home; you can open the windows without worrying about things flying in.

What if you already have these screens and still see lots of bugs?

The chances are the screens are worn and broken, so have a look at them. Maybe they need upgrading, in which case you can get some custom replacement screens to do the job. Sometimes it’s just a case of replacing a screen with one that has smaller holes so fewer things can fly inside.

Always keep your kitchen clean

What attracts ants, bugs, and flies to your home? Any number of things might lure them in, but food is the number one factor. Fruit flies and other small bugs will love coming in and feasting on tiny scraps of food. It could be some small crumbs on the kitchen floor, but to them it’s a feast.

Get into the habit of cleaning your kitchen every day so no food debris is on the floor or lingers on surfaces. You remove a possible reason for bugs infiltrating your home, and you should see an immediate decrease in these pests crawling or buzzing around.

Don’t let your home get too humid

Bugs also love humid climates, which is why they thrive in rainforests. Your home might not reach the humidity threshold of the Amazon, but if it gets too humid, this can attract bugs.

Counter this easily by keeping your home at a good humidity level:

  • Use a dehumidifier
  • Turn on the extraction fans when you use the shower or cook
  • Open the windows regularly

You can genuinely tackle all of these ideas within a day to truly bugproof your property. As you may have noticed, you’re targeting natural solutions, rather than resorting to high-strength chemicals and bug poison. You don’t need to harm the local ecosystem to keep bugs out of your home.
