5 Reasons to Watch Loving

While in LA in October I was able to see Loving for the first time and to say it is an inspiring movie is an understatement. Instead of giving you the entire story line away (because we all hate the movie being ruined) I decided to do 5 Reasons to Watch Loving. But really there are LOTS more that I could give you, but these are the ones that resonated most with me.

  1. Simple innocent love is apparent throughout the entire movie. No matter what the scenery was Richard and Mildred’s innocent love was more than apparent. But more importantly Ruth and Joel captured their love in a way that makes the viewer believe they are just as in love as Richard and Mildred were.
  2. Richard and Mildred faced obstacles, hardships, and loved each other and their children. But more importantly their love allowed them to lose lots of little battles, but they will win the war.
  3. The movie showed just how heart wrenching their life journey was while they fought their battles. But Richard and Mildred were hard workers, but there was even times that each spouse was defeated in the moment, but learned to support each other. With love everything is possible and the small battles ended up being a monumental moment that affected history.
  4. Tell the judge, “I love my wife.” That one sentence was the only message that Richard Loving wanted the Supreme Court to know. It wasn’t about black and white to them, it was about love knowing no boundaries and being free to love openly no matter what the color of your skin.
  5. Listen to the entire story, not the one told with words, but the unspoken story as well. It was beyond impressive that they stood up together against all odds to change the United States back in the 50’s. But if you pay close enough attention, you might see more than what meets the eye and question your role in society as a whole.

Head to the theater to watch Loving this weekend, I promise you will be glad you did.
