Are you looking to make something delicious? These Red Velvet Cookies are perfect for baking anytime of the year. You can bring them to potlucks or make them to enjoy right in your own home.
How to Make Red Velvet Cookies
Growing up one of my all time favorite desserts at the holidays was Red Velvet Cake. My Nana could make the best one I had ever had and each year I looked forward to it more and more.
While she shared her recipe with us grandchildren, I still cannot to this day make a Red Velvet Cake to save my soul. My sister Heather on the other hand makes them almost monthly and once in awhile I get my hands on some of it and enjoy hers.
While it is the same recipe Nana made, I swear it tastes a little different, but things always do when you get older right? While my Nana is no longer here with us, I can still smile and think about the memories of years gone by and eating her Red Velvet Cake. But when you can’t make something you come up with an alternate right??
So, we tried our hand at Red Velvet Cookies and I am happy to report they are delicious and a very close second. Here is the recipe we used.
Are Red Velvet Cookies Hard to Make?
Believe it or not, but Red Velvet Cookies aren’t too hard to make. They’re easy to make and delicious to eat. A lot of people are intimidated by making baked goods at home, but you got this.
These cookies don’t require many ingredients and with a little practice, you’ll be a pro at making these types of cookies.
What Makes Red Velvet Cookies Red?
Have you ever thought about what makes Red Velvet Cookies red? It’s just food coloring, which means there is nothing special that you need to buy.
If you’d rather use a natural alternative to red food coloring, you could also do that. I know that some people do not like using red dye.
You can easily buy red food coloring right online, which is awesome. Back when I first started this blog, you couldn’t order all this stuff online.
What Makes Red Velvet Cake Different Than Chocolate Cake?
Have you ever thought about what makes Red Velvet Cake different than chocolate cake? Red Velvet is actually made from cocoa powder, vinegar, and buttermilk. These ingredients work together to create a cake that we all enjoy!
You will notice that the Red Velvet Cake has sort of acidic taste to it because of the ingredients used. However, it’s still delicious and a favorite around here.
Where Did Red Velvet Come From?
If you’re wondering where Red Velvet came from, you might be intrigued. The first Red Velvet Cake was created in the 1920’s by a company called The Adams Extract Company.
Ever since the 1920’s, Red Velvet has been a huge hit as a flavor. You’ll see people making Red Velvet Cake, Red Velvet Cupcakes, and anything else they can create out of the flavor. Of course, Life With Heidi has created this awesome Red Velvet Cookie recipe for you!
