Sister Swap: A Hometown Holiday
Movie Info:
Stars: Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Ashley Williams, Mark Deklin, Keith Robinson, Susan Yeagley and Kevin Nealon
Jennifer and Meg Swift are sisters who couldn’t be closer despite living hours apart. Jennifer is in Salt Lake City, running a successful restaurant she started with her late husband and raising her teenaged son Simon. Meg stayed in their hometown of Hazelwood, helping their parents run the local bakery. This Christmas is the family’s first since the passing of Uncle Dave who owned the town’s beloved theater, The Madison, where many memories were made over the years. When Jennifer and Simon return home for the holiday, they become wistful for one more Christmas at The Madison, despite that it’s for sale and in need of repairs. Meanwhile, Meg is helping Jennifer’s restaurant staff in Salt Lake prepare for a Christmas competition among local restaurants with the winner earning money for the charity of its choice. With the sisters switching cities leading up to the holiday, they find a new sense of purpose and discover what they both truly need in life and in love.
What the Holidays Means To Me
The holidays in my family growing up were very special because it meant it was a busy time of the year. But because it was busy it also meant we were going to be spending more time together as a family. Growing up in Northern Missouri my grandparents owned and operated Brummitt’s Christmas Tree Farm just outside of Trenton, Missouri in a place we fondly call Hickory.
The tree farm was open every weekend starting the Friday after Thanksgiving and each weekend we would spend hours running up and down the fields of evergreens. While we were there to “work” we had lots of fun and working the tree farm was just a holiday tradition. Because customers were able to cut and choose their own Christmas trees there were lots of us on hand to assist the customers.
While enjoying downtime we drank lots of hot chocolate, warmed ourselves by the fire between customers, and enjoy many sleigh rides on the horse-drawn sleigh with my Papa at the reins. They were some of the best days of the year and with each year that passed, we all looked forward to the holidays each year.
When our daughter Elizabeth was younger she was even able to take part in the tradition of picking our very own Christmas Tree on Thanksgiving Day. Then we would each go home and decorate for the holidays as a family after we decorated Nana and Papa’s tree at their home. It is one of my all-time favorite memories and while the tree farm is no longer it is still something that we chat about each and every holiday season.
Now that I’m a Nana, it’s my job to tell our grandson all about those memories while making new memories with him for years to come. He is now 2 years old and this will be the third Christmas we have spent together and I can’t wait to make more special memories with him this year. And one of the biggest traditions I hope to pass down is to watch some Hallmark movies with him and of course bake some cookies and make Christmas Candy.

To me the holidays mean being able to have all of my kids together at once. We all live in different parts of the country so us being all together happens only a few times a year. Christmas is the best holiday with all the decorations and snow.

The holidays for me is all about family and traditions. I have two daughers, ages 6 and 8 years old. I’ve been homeschooling them since covid and they have been working so hard. This holiday is all about taking time to relax and enjoy time spent together and building nice memories. We always bake and decorate gingerbread cookies. We also love going on Pinterest and finding holiday recipes and crafts to make together. My daughter also love making cards for family and neighbors. My daughters will make me gifts, which is my favorite. Traditionally, I always watch Hallmark movies almost every night with my husband once we put the kids to bed. This year, our daughters have been watching these movies with us. They love these movies just as much as I do. We are always in a good mood after we watch them.

To me the holidays means being with family and loved ones and creating new memories. I remember as a kid we would all decorate gingerbread house and cookies and we still do that together! It’s not always about gifts but more about spreading joy and happiness! One of my favorite things also is we always went shopping for families and children in need! The holidays are about family, love, and giving back!
