Spider Cookies
Spider cookies are a great way to get your family ready for Halloween. These do take a little bit of time to make because of cooling time, but if you are pressed for time use pre-made dough to help a little. I love this dessert because the kids could also help make the spiders meaning more time spent with the kids. What is your favorite Halloween treat?
Ingredients:
1 ¾ cups all purpose flour
½ cup sugar
½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup shortening
½ cup peanut butter
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
Sugar
Bag of chocolate truffles (I used Lindt Milk Chocolate)
Betty Crocker Chocolate Icing
Small candy eyes
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, shortening, peanut butter, milk, vanilla and egg.
- Mix well.
- Roll pieces of dough into 1 inch balls.
- In a shallow bowl, add sugar and roll the cookie dough to coat the cookie.
- Place on a cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes.
- Remove from oven when cookies are golden brown.
- Let the cookies cool for just a few minutes.
- Press a chocolate truffle in the center of each cookie so it has a small ‘crater’ in the center. I used one truffle and made a quick ‘crater’ in each cookie and let the cookies cool for a few more minutes. If you add your truffle too soon, the chocolate will melt! (If you waited too long and the truffle isn’t staying just add a drop of icing to the bottom and it will stay in place!)
Add a drop of icing on the back of two candy eyes and add to the spider truffle center.
After the truffles are placed in the center, use icing to draw the spider’s legs around the cookie.
- Enjoy!
