Summer Activities the Whole Family Can Enjoy
With the beginning of summer approaching, here are family summer activities to help start your summer out with a bang. From taking a step back in time and watching a movie at the drive-in; to attending a local sporting event, be sure to spend your weeks of summer doing something the whole family will enjoy.
Reading
Pick a tree in your backyard and lay down a blanket. Have some lemonade and cookies, and read the books you’ve checked out from the library. Take turns reading. Invite friends and their kids to join you and you can even make it a weekly event.
Take a trip to the playground
While some kids are fortunate enough to have a large play set in their own backyards, many parks and playgrounds can still put those larger-than-life toys to shame. Kids of all ages enjoy climbing, sliding, hanging, and balancing across these big obstacle-course sets made of wood, plastic, and even steel. It can be a fun time for the whole family.
Picking fruit
Nothing is better than picking your own fruit! Whether it’s strawberries, apples, or something else, kids of all ages will enjoy seeing how fruit gets all the way from the farm to their plate.
Camping
Enjoy the beautiful outdoors by going camping with your family. While there, try fishing, hiking, and of course campfire cooking.
Volunteer
It’s always important to teach your kids the value of giving back. Volunteer to help your local community and make an impact on others’ lives.
Farmers market
Farmer’s markets are important since they show kids a wide variety of fruits and vegetables they might not see or eat otherwise. Free samples are common at these, so have your kids try a new taste or pick something new to take home and cook a healthy dish with.
Spring event. Summertime and baseball are synonymous. Take in America’s pastime or another sporting event with your family and friends, and point out acts of good sportsmanship to your kids.
Drive-in movies In your yard
Yes, these are actually still around! Grab some snacks, a comfy blanket, and take in a movie under the stars as a family. But I prefer to do a movie night under the stars for family and friends to enjoy. They are so much fun and the memories you make will be priceless. This year we did a Bambi Themed night and it was LOTS of fun!
Although you may not be able to afford a summer vacation this year, there are no-cost, fun summer activities for the whole family. It can be achieved with a little imagination and a lot of creativity.
What are you planning on doing this summer?

Great list of Family Summertime Activities. I especially like the activity of a picnic and a good book to read.
