Super Buddies Meet and Greet Photos
Disclosure: I attended the #DisneyPlanesPremiere and #LittleMermaidEvent. My flight, lodging and expenses were all covered by Disney. However, all opinions are my own.
Traveling to Los Angeles at the beginning of the month was an awesome experience and one that was an amazing trip. I had a fun filled and packed three day trip with Disney and got to see and do things I never imagined I would be a part of. I attended the Little Mermaid Showcase Dinner, walked the red carpet for the movie Premiere Planes, stayed at the glorious Roosevelt hotel and so many more wonderful activities. On the third day of our trip we got to meet Rosebud from the new movie Super Buddies and one of the puppies trainers.
We learned so much about the behind the scenes activities like training, their careers as puppies and of course the movie. Of course there are more dogs and trainers but we did get to meet one trainer Ray Beal and one puppy who plays Rosebud. Each puppy has a unique name and this one is Cooper so that way trainers know what puppy they have because there is more than one Rosebud character. In fact each character in the movie is played by 2 different puppies and it doesn’t matter if it is a girl or a boy. (We won’t tell the kids the Disney secrets.)
After the puppies are “picked” they are put into a two week Training Buddy Boot Camp when they are 8 weeks old. Then they work for 2-6 weeks before they “retire” because then they are to old to play the part. Each film takes 20-30 dogs total with two different puppies representing one character so if one tires they can keep filming. Each character is trained by the same trainer to keep their training consistent.
Some interesting facts about the stars of Super Buddies:
- After their career is over they are placed with the crew, Disney staff or other great organizations so the puppies have a great life and are well taken care of into their adult years.
- The puppies are all trained with positive reinforcements which is just dog food but they are all fed the same thing.
- If the puppies don’t like to do something, a different puppy is assigned that task. For example, one didn’t like to roll in the mud, so a different puppy was substituted in that scene.
- Some puppies are not “set worthy” because of all of the lights, cameras and action involved on the set some puppies just don’t deal with it well. But they are put through desensitizing activities to help with that aspect of their jobs.
Super Buddies Film Review
Growing up watching Disney movies through the years has been a family tradition so to speak. Our mom and dad instilled in us at a young age the love of Disney movies and I am happy to have done the same with our daughter Elizabeth. But because Elizabeth is now a teenager I often involve nieces and nephews where I can because we have so many to choose from. This particular film was a great film to watch as a family and I loved it, but I would have to say my nephew Cayden who is 7 years old absolutely was enthralled through the entire movie.
The 5 year old and 3 year old also watched it with us but their attention span wasn’t as good as Cayden’s. After the movie was over his official statement about the movie was this, “I loved it just as much as the first one. no maybe this one was better. Can I keep this movie so I can watch it again tonight?” I will admit that I did let him keep it because who can tell a kid no?
I loved the fact that it was a funny movie filled with one liners and that the overall theme is that with teamwork everything is possible. Which is how the Disney Magic happens! It is also a great movie that is truly a G rated movie which I love because it puts me in the mind of what Walt Disney would have really wanted for his company. I do have to admit though that my favorite part of the Super Buddies movie is the acting done by John Rattzenburger who I saw on the red carpet. Had I gotten close to him I had decided that I would talk to him, but alas it didn’t happen.
All in all we give Super Buddies 5 out of 5 stars and believe it will be a Disney classic in no time. Make sure you check out these training clips of the puppy stars in action! As well as the great Disney movie collection giveaway (Super Buddies is included) that is going on until the 3oth.
