Ted’s Cafe Escondido A Hidden Gem
As Empty Nesters one of the things that I’ve learned is going out to eat is something we tend to do on a more special occasion if you will.. But after dining out at Ted’s Café Escondido in Shoal Creek I have to admit I’m ready to head back any time. We had a wonderful night at Ted’s Cafe Escondio’s and I learned why it’s translation is literally a Hidden gem. From the moment we stepped into the door we were treated like family or an extension of the Ted’s family and we had more food than we could eat at any given meal. I loved the family atmosphere and the staff were all amazing but the fresh food is where it is at!
We were ushered to a table quickly and I missed the lady making fresh tortillas as we walked by, but decided it would be a great way to spend time, if you were in line to be seated on a busier night. As soon as we sat down our chips, salsa and cheese arrived. The salsa was fresh and delicious, but when I took a bite of the cheese sauce I really thought I was in heaven. It was the best cheese sauce I’ve ever had and while I usually mix the salsa and cheese, I preferred them to be separate.
Mychaela took our drink order and offered us some “atomic” salsa and pickled veggies along with homemade tortillas. The homemade tortillas were the BEST and it quickly took me back to my childhood when we would have homemade tortillas with jams on them. While I didn’t ask for jam, the butter was the perfect solution and We accepted and mulled over their menu while she was gone. But because it was our first visit to Ted’s Mychaela took the time to answer our questions and after getting her recommendations we finally made a decision as to what to try. While waiting we chatted about our day and one of the managers arrived at our table with a plate of his favorite premium sides.
Pappas Mexicanos House-mashed, garlic infused potatoes with finely diced green chilies, a Ted’s favorite (Oh my gosh, they were divine!)
Corn con Crema Corn in a creamy sauce with a blend of spices and finely diced green chilies (better than any side I’ve ever had before and a must try when you go!)
The Entrees
Brady opted for the Mexican Flag and I settled on the Must-Try Mexican Tacos. Both ended up being delicious and the food was out to our table in record time. Each meal was delicious, hot and made from the freshest ingredients. While you can order items as spicy as you like it, we played it safe and weren’t disappointed. The portions were large enough that neither of us finished our plates but we had to end the meal with a fresh-made sopapilla. I took my leftovers home with me and they made the perfect lunch the next day, my only regret is not being able to run right over to Ted’s at lunchtime because it is honestly a hidden gem and somewhere everyone needs to visit at least weekly.
Love free?
Then Ted’s Cafe Escondido is for you! Their famous tortillas and fresh chips are included with your meal. But that isn’t all, also included is their yummy hand-made salsas, cheese sauce, grilled onions, and peppers. While I left the peppers for Brady, the grilled onions were the bomb.com But remember to save a little room for dessert because they even include sopapillas free with every meal. But if you only want to eat these yummy treats without ordering from the menu they are only $6.99 (talk about a Happy Hour!!
Ted’s specials (all include the complimentary items):
o Kids Eat Free – Monday nights
o Taco Tuesday – mix or match ground beef, tender pork, shredded chicken or shredded beef tacos for only 6.99.
o “Ted’s Choose Two” lunch special includes two items with rice and beans for $8.99.
o Ted’s Happy Hour – food and drink specials M-F from 3-6
o Chiefs Extended Happy Hour – during Chiefs games (home or away)
Ted’s originated in Oklahoma, where it has won many awards, and expanded to Kansas City market in 2016 with locations in north Kansas City, Lee’s Summit and Overland Park.
But don’t take my word for it, check out Ted’s Escondido’s online menu so you have an idea of what you want to try before you walk in the door.
