The Dating Rules You Should (Probably) Follow

Lifestyle

Dating is complicated. What with the million and one apps and dating services to choose from, the dilemmas about who pays, and even just finding someone you can get along with, it can sometimes feel like you’d be better off not bothering, but if you want to meet something, you can’t just throw in the towel!

What you can do though, is make things easier for yourself by following these very useful rules of dating that will simplify the process and see you get better results.

Date lots of people at the same time

If you want to maximize your chances of meeting someone, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Date as many people as you can and you will be better able to work out what you really want and give yourself the best chance of finding it.

Try out as many ways of dating as possible

For the same reasons, you should also try utilizing as many forms of dating from apps and the chat line numbers most relating to your interests, to speed dating events, and even being introduced to mutual friends, as you can. The more you’re “in” the dating game, the more successful you are likely to be.

Keep it short

If your date lasts longer than 90 minutes, it is probably too long, at least in the beginning. 90 minutes is long enough to get to know the basics about someone without it dragging on and getting awkward, and a good way to leave them wanting more. It also means you can fit more dates in.

Be honest

If you aren’t honest about what you want, you are making it much more difficult for yourself to find it. So, if you’re just looking for hookups say so, or if you want a relationship don’t be afraid to put it out there. It will help you to filter out those potentials who are not a good match and you will find the right person far more easily.

Don’t get clingy

After a date, wait a day to follow up. If they don’t reply. Leave the ball in their court, and if they don’t get back in touch within a fortnight, move on. Nobody likes a clingy date, so you’ll limit yourself if you act all clingy early on, but equally, if someone is playing games with you, you need to move on and focus on the dates who are making an effort to get to know you.

Don’t make a big deal about who pays

If they want to pay let, them if they want to split it, do that, and if they expect you to pay, suck it up and pay. Early on, it does not serve you well to make a big deal about this kind of thing because it will just get in the way of the more important stuff that really does matter.

Follow these rules most of the time, and you should have an easier and more fruitful time when dating.
