The World Needs More Love
*I worked with Focus Features to bring you this post, however all opinions are 100% my own.
Sitting down with Director Jeff Nichols, Joel Edgerton, Terry Abney and Ruth Negga was surreal and their love for their role in Loving was amazing. Each person brought their character to life and Jeff Nichols dreams to life in an all new way. To say Loving is a must watch movie is an understatement. With all of the United States in an uproar about who to vote for we need to remember what is really important.
LOVE is the most important thing of all and we all need to love unconditionally as Richard and Mildred Loving did back in the 60’s. It isn’t about black and white, it is about loving your significant other unconditionally regardless of their skin color, race, or anything else for that matter. LOVE is what we need more of in our lives. Without the Lovings, our lives, as we know it, would be very different from what they are today.
The film is a digital masterpiece that brings to life a true story and one that will be a legacy and certainly it should be an Oscar winner. But one of the pieces that was brought up during our interview was children watching this movie. Would it be appropriate for children to watch? Hands down the answer across the board was yes that kids should be allowed to watch it. But Joel’s answer was probably the one that stuck out to me most because he simply said, “I think that in many ways, children, will view this and probably look at us and go, well what was the problem?”
Children do see color, but they just don’t know how to value judgement in a negative fashion. Someone has to teach them that and that is something that Loving the movie is working against. So let’s all work together to end the hate, the black versus white argument or even who someone should or shouldn’t date. Loving is a true love story and at the core of this fight was love, they didn’t set out to be civil rights leaders, they wanted to be with their family and they wanted to fight the battle for LOVE not for fame or fortune.
So when it’s time for your next battle, fight or even disagreement remember that The World Needs More Love and let your heart guide you in the right direction.
