How to Throw a Super Bowl Party in 5 Easy Steps
Gear up for one of the biggest sporting events of the year by tackling your Super Bowl party planning now! Jennifer Carver, of Spaceships and Laser Beams, is sharing her five top tips for throwing a spectacular Super Bowl party for your football loving friends and family.
Invite your guests
Step #1: Invite a fun crowd of people. The Super Bowl isn’t just for football die-hards. It’s an event that brings family and friends together to share food and drink and enjoy some game watching. Consider who might bring the fun and who might bring the fanatical and make your guest list.
Send out Invitations
Step #2: Send out an official invitation. Once the teams are finalized, create an invitation requesting that guests come and enjoy the game. Include details like whether you will be showing the game live or tape delayed and let guests know what they should expect in terms of food and drink. This is a great opportunity for you to make any special requests such as inviting guests to bring an appetizer, a side dish or dessert or to dress in their chosen team’s colors.
Gather Supplies
Step #3: Round up party ware (plates, napkins, cups) and decorations in appropriate color schemes. Super Bowl party supplies are popular and any team specific merchandise flies off the shelves quickly. Decide early in your planning whether both Super Bowl teams will be equally sharing the spotlight or if you’ll focus solely on your chosen team. Once that decision is made, collect plates and napkins, pom-poms, pennant flags, footballs, megaphones and helmets to use in your decorating.
Make signs and banners and create interest with coordinating balloons and streamers. If you want to make your party even more extravagant, then you could consider purchasing team jerseys from a retailer such as Sports Gear Swag, to ensure the attendees are kitted out and in high spirits for the game!
Menu
Step #4: Decide on a tasty tailgate menu. Nothing will take the “super” out of a Super Bowl party faster than serving up lackluster food…or not having enough food. When selecting your menu, consider guests who will most likely be attending. Think about their ages, palettes, and any dietary needs they may have. Include hearty items like burgers, hot dogs, pizza or wings and pair them with tried and true side dishes such as potato skins, mozzarella sticks, French fries, bread sticks and chips and dip. Don’t forget to think of other easy-fix-it appetizer and finger foods that can be munched on throughout several hours of play and commercials. Fruits and veggies with accompanying dips are a healthy addition, as are nuts and popcorn.
Desserts
Be sure to satisfy the sweet tooth too! There are many great options for Super Bowl themed desserts. Use a football shaped cake pan to make a custom cake. Cookie cutters in the shape of a football, helmet or pennant banner can be used to create sugar cookies and cut brownies. Football shaped cake pops, popping out of helmets or faux grass, can add a lot to a dessert table. Themed cupcake toppers with team logos can dress up store bought or homemade cupcakes.
Stock Your Fridge
Step #5: Stock your fridge and cooler with plenty of beverages! Nothing generates thirst quite like a Super Bowl viewing experience! Consider your audience and have plenty of appropriate drinks on hand to please the crowd.
Keeping these 5 easy steps in mind, you are sure to throw a Super Bowl party that will be remembered long after the game has ended.
