Tips On Upgrading Your Mattress

Frugal living

Having a comfortable environment to sleep in is essential for our well-being. Getting a good night’s sleep boasts many benefits, like improving focus, boosting our immune system and repairing our bodies — this is why making sure you have the best bed is important, as well as a good quality mattress. If you think it might be time for an upgrade, read on to find out more about how to decide which mattress is best for you.

How long does a mattress last?

Unfortunately, mattresses aren’t built to last your whole lifetime. It can be difficult to know when it’s time to make the change, but there are a few things that can indicate that your mattress is on its way out. If you’ve had your mattress for 8-10 years, it is almost certainly time to upgrade! Choosing a firm mattress could also be beneficial for those that sleep on their sides, as well as people that suffer from back pain as it supports the alignment of your body and can help to support your spine. Check out this mattress in a box!

If you feel like you’re becoming particularly stiff or achy in the morning, this is one of the most obvious ways to tell your mattress is past its best, as well as not sleeping as well as you usually do.  You should also look for any sagging or indentations in your mattress, as well as any noticeable lumps and bumps.

Firmness

Upgrading your mattress can seem like an overwhelming task, with so many options, models, and sizes available, but it doesn’t have to be, and one of the main factors that you must determine when your mattress shopping is the firmness that is right for you. Generally, if you’re heavier or taller, your mattress should be firmer.  Choosing a firm mattress could also be beneficial for those that sleep on their sides, as well as people that suffer from back pain as it supports the alignment of your body and can help to support your spine.

Sleeping position

Your sleeping position is another deciding factor when choosing the best mattress for you. As previously mentioned, back sleeps tend to benefit from a firmer mattress to keep limbs aligned and alleviate pain. Side sleepers benefit from a supportive, yet soft mattress, so a memory foam or hybrid model could be advantageous, for support and comfort. If you’re a front sleeper, a hybrid mattress can ensure comfort, as well as provide additional support to your spine.

Before you upgrade your mattress, think about what you need from it. Think about your sleeping position and do your research based on how you’re most comfortable in bed.

Back pain

It’s no coincidence that most people that suffer from back pain wake up sore in the morning. Back pain and mattresses go hand in hand, so you should choose a mattress that will not aggravate the problem further but will help you to get a good night’s sleep. If back pain is a problem for you, choosing a mattress with pressure point relief can be beneficial, and hybrid mattresses can be good for providing you with comfort, as well as advanced support.

Suffering from back pain can be uncomfortable, and your mattress should allow you to sleep soundly, even when you’re suffering. Choosing a mattress that is best suited for your sleeping position can also be helpful when it comes to reducing discomfort.

Allergies

If you suffer from allergies, a new mattress can help! An old mattress can become dusty, and leave you with symptoms like a runny nose, and itchy and watery eyes which can lead to an agitated, and disrupted night’s sleep. If you’re looking for a solution that won’t leave you with congestion, choosing a model with breathable layers that allows for internal airflow could be advantageous.
