Tybee Island A Great Place to Visit
Tybee Island A Great Place to Visit! There is nothing more relaxing than an morning on the beach at Tybee Island beaches. My only regret is only being able to relax in the sun and beauty just one day. But there is a plethora of things to do and see when you visit Tybee some of course are even free! But I will have to go back and visit Tybee Island Beaches another time because truth be told I just enjoyed the beauty and grandeur of the beach life the day I was there.
We went to the Tybee Island Light Station beach for our morning of fun in the sun and the weather was absolutely perfect. The Atlantic Ocean surrounds the island and of course is connected to the second largest port on the East Coast which is Savannah. It was no surprise to us that we seen the same cargo boat in both locations! It was huge and nothing short of impressive watching it head out to sea.
I loved that there was a man renting beach chairs and umbrellas so you didn’t have to pack your own! If Mr. SMSL remembers right the chairs were $10 a day and umbrellas were $30. If we had been there all day we definitely would have rented at least one of them, but it was a morning visit so we enjoyed walking the beach! We even found the dead Horseshoe Crab on the beach and our country kids loved examining it, we left it for other beach goers to enjoy.
While we were there we got to see dolphins playing out in the water, but try as I might I never a picture of them out of the water! There were some pelicans resting on the polls as well as an area roped off for Loggerhead Turtles to nest. We also enjoyed the seagulls, jellyfish and a hermit crab that all came to visit. I think I was almost as excited as the kids were during our Tybee Island exploring!

Tybee Island offers Light House Tours of Georgia’s Oldest and Tallest Lighthouse but because we were there on a Tuesday we were unable to go to the top. There are several places available to rent kayaks, bikes, surfboards, jet skies and more for a few hours or even all day. I would have loved to go on a dolphin watching tour, but again there wasn’t enough time in the area. There were of course shopping, tourist shops and hotels you could stay in but we stayed in Savannah. If you love the beach then a trip to Tybee Beach is just the getaway for you.
Tybee Island has lots of restaurants to choose from but we decided to eat at Crab Shack at Chimney Creek for a late lunch early supper. It was the one restaurant that was recommended to us by several during our trip. It was definitely worth the stop and a restaurant I would gladly go back and eat again! More details coming soon about that awesome meal!!
So if you are in the Savannah, Georgia area be sure to check out Tybee Island where you can have a perfect beach getaway year around!
