Using a Face Mask in Your Skincare Routine – Yes, It Works!

Health & Beauty

Face mask applications are an essential part of any good skincare routine – you’ll find evidence on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media sites. But, chances are that your friends aren’t quite sure if this is something they should do. If you’ve heard cautionary tales about not-so-great results, know that face masks need to be used in the right way. That’s how you get glowing, nourished skin that belies your age. Most importantly, you’ll want to choose the right products according to your skin type and the results you’re hoping to get.

Choose Face Masks According to the Skin Issues You Want to Fix

Before choosing the right face mask, you’ll identify the skin issues you want to fix. Next, you’ll read the ingredients on the packaging carefully. Then, you’ll be ready to choose. For instance:

Pigmentation, discolorations, and dark spots?

You’re looking for face masks that have natural bleaching agents that can take away the blemishes. Look for ingredients that contain vitamin C and lactic and alpha-hydroxy acids that gently remove the upper dead and dying cells to reveal new skin below the surface. Think turmeric, yogurt, lemon, aloe vera, pineapple, and cucumber juice.

Signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles?

Premature signs of aging are typically caused by excessive exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays and lack of moisture. You’ll need ingredients that nourish the skin and reverse the damage. Look for face masks that contain egg whites, honey, and tea tree oil, with a base of almond or olive oil. Coconut oil or the hemp oil found in CBD face masks are ideal for soothing sun damage and hydrating your skin, so choose products that contain these elements.

Acne, breakouts, and pimples?

The key reason for acne is overactive sebaceous glands that attract dirt and impurities. You’ll need to cleanse the skin to get rid of the bacteria that cause breakouts and irritation. Look for ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid that are found in papaya and yogurt. Adding aloe vera and oatmeal is great for soothing inflamed skin while clay and charcoal remove bacteria.

Oily look?

Having oily skin may be an annoyance, but some oil is a good thing. The sebum from sebaceous glands keeps your skin looking young and healthy. The oily look indicates that your skin is thicker, with a lower chance of developing wrinkles. The downside is that you could develop breakouts more easily. You’d look for ingredients that take away the extra oil, such as hyaluronic acid and retinol acid. Think clay, avocados, grapeseed oil, and orange peels.

Dry, dull, and tired-looking?

Dry and tired skin needs hydration and pampering. Think ingredients like milk, honey, bananas, yogurt, and aloe vera with a generous helping of your favorite essential oils. Go with rose, mandarin, agave, or Japanese cherry blossom, to name a few.

Face masks are great for nourishing your skin and reversing the effects of dirt, sun damage, chemicals, and pollution. Just make sure to choose the right products.
