Ways to Keep Kids Busy in the Vehicle
This year has been one we would like to skip. However, father time doesn’t quite work that way, but one could hope, right? Right….In my humble opinion 2020 has also been a learning curve this year has been Heading on a road trip soon? Maybe the car pick up line is too crazy? No matter why you’re in the car with the kids, there are ways to keep them busy! Check out these ideas for keeping kids busy while in the vehicle.
Sing songs in the car
I know singing isn’t probably the first thing on your mind. However, singing songs in the car with your kiddos is a great way to keep them busy! It occupies their minds and they are focuses on singing and not being crazy.
Bring along drawing tools
Another way to keep the kids busy in the vehicle is by bringing along drawing tools. Pens, markers, pencils, and paper all make great tools for the car. Kids have the chance to be super creative in the vehicle as well!
Read license plates
If your kids are old enough, this is an awesome one. Even so, adults can read the license plates to the kids. Let your kids find license plates from as many states as they can! You can even print off a checklist. They will LOVE this and it will keep them busy for hours.
“I” Spy
You knew I was going to say this car game and that is because it keeps kids busy for hours. Kids can spy a lot of things, so let them. It can get a little loud and obnoxious, but it’s all in good fun.
Let them read
Bring along book “bags” for each kid. Stuff those bags full of books and let them go to town with reading them. Reading is an occupier of time and it helps the kids use their imaginations. If you can’t think of anything else for the kids to do in the car, this is a good one.
Just chat
Kids love to talk, especially if they are getting your full attention. Have a talk with your kids and just enjoy it. They will remember these moments for many years to come. We do several of the things you mentioned as well as implement audio books that we check out from the local library. My ten year old and my four year old listened to EVERY Harry Potter book in almost complete silence while driving to school, on vacation, to practices, etc. It was nothing short of amazing!
