Has your New Year’s Resolution already fallen apart?
The wheels will fall off of about 80% of all New Year’s Resolutions by the second week of February.
At the same time, 80% of new gym memberships are cancelled after 5 months. However, that’s the cancellation date. In most cases, a gym membership will lie unused for weeks or months at a time, with vague promises to get back at it soon. But, the white flag usually goes up and the membership is declared a waste of money after 5 months.
New Year’s Resolutions have become a bit of a punch line in recent years. Nobody takes them seriously.
So, if your resolution has failed, here’s how to start taking weight loss seriously.
Step 1: Rethink Your Goals
Goals need to be realistic, or they’re just dreams.
A lot of people will just arbitrarily decide to lose 10 pounds. They may make vague promises of working out more or going on a new kind of extreme diet. However, if they really take a step back and look at their life, they may realize that there is no room for any of that.
They’re already incredibly busy, so there are zero windows in their day for more gym time. They’re also cooking to feed a whole family and they can’t reasonably ask their kids to follow their new dieting habits.
Realistically, going on a new healthy keto diet may be an option, as it promotes weight loss by inducing a state of ketosis, where the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. It may also help improve insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation, potentially benefiting individuals. As this diet has many other benefits as well as weight loss, it is a realistic choice for a lifestyle change.
Step 2: Be Honest With Yourself and Be Kind To Yourself
You can let yourself off the hook for not having unlimited hours to spend in the gym.
If you’re looking to lose fewer than 15 pounds, it may be more reasonable to get a body contouring treatment, liposuction procedure, or tummy tuck. If you want to see what’s possible, you should check out a few abdominoplasty before and after pictures.
The ideal candidate for these procedures is someone who is hovering near their target weight and already living a reasonably healthy lifestyle. They just need a little bit of help losing a few stubborn pounds.
The procedure can take care of the extra fat or inches, while your healthy lifestyle can help keep them from coming back.
Step 3: Cut Out the Short Cuts
Short cuts lead to short term results. If you hear about a great new diet hack, it’s best to just assume it’s a fad. It may help you quickly lose a few pounds of water weight, but you will slowly see that weight climb back onto the scale.
Stay the course. Live a happy, healthy and balanced lifestyle every single day, and don’t get side-tracked by flashy promises of miracle products. You will drive yourself insane if you’re constantly trying everything you hear a fitness influencer talk about.
Plan the work, and work the plan. There is simply no better long-term plan than consistent exercise and a sustainably healthy diet— anything that tries to tell you otherwise is just a marketing ploy.
So, if your New Year’s Resolution doesn’t last, it’s actually a good thing. Once it’s out of the way, you can start taking things seriously and start seeing some serious results.
