Houses With Home Security Systems

When burglars target a home, they don’t want the homeowners or police to know they are there. And because of this, burglars tend to stay away from houses with a home security system.

Home security equipment like burglar alarms and CCTV cameras can deter a thief. Burglars are aware of the following possible scenarios;

  • A burglar alarm can go off when it detects unauthorized intrusion.
  • CCTV cameras will record every movement, thereby risking exposing their identity to the police.
  • A monitored home security system can alert homeowners or the police of their presence in the house.

Houses That Have Reinforced Entry Points

Burglars target houses that are easy to break into. For example, those with easy-to-pick locks are generally easy to break down.

And because of this, burglars will avoid houses that have the following reinforced entry points;

  • Doors with top security locks or keyless entry systems.
  • Video surveillance on doorbells to capture unauthorized persons at the door.
  • Windows reinforced with secure locks like deadbolt locks or Euro locks.

Houses With Security Lights

Burglars like working in the dark to avoid exposure. And because of this, they will avoid houses with the following light features at all costs:

  • Well-lit patios and outdoor areas
  • Lights that turn on upon detection of motion.

Houses With Dogs

Dogs are loyal and territorial, and in addition to that, owners can train them to detect unusual activity in the house and deal with it effectively. They act as living home security systems.

A burglar knows that a house that has guard dogs will present the following challenges;

  • Homeowners or neighbors will be notified of the intrusion when the dog barks.
  • A dog can also attack and subdue a burglar while waiting for the homeowners to take action.

Houses Located in Neighborly Estates

Burglars like to hit houses when they know nobody is home to stop them. But what if you have the ears and eyes of neighbors to watch your house when you aren’t around? This is an effective burglar deterrent method.

Burglars will not risk breaking into a house they know is under surveillance by neighbors because they know they will see them doing their criminal activities. A neighbor might even confront them and expose their criminal intentions. No burglar wants this.

Therefore, keeping a good relationship with your neighbors is crucial.

Final Thoughts

Though some cunning thieves still manage to get around these systems, they are only a small fraction of the ones effectively deterred by houses with these security measures.

And in case you’re wondering how a burglar will know that your house is monitored or has security measures, you can simply warn them by putting up a sign that says so. For example, ‘Be aware of dangerous dog,’ ‘This house is under 24-hour surveillance!’ etc. They are effective in deterring criminals as well.
